Just wondered if anyone knew if the TV Room has stopped updating their archive, haven't been any for ages, even though people are still being invited to send them in. I've found a heap of newspapers in my attic, that I was going to send in, with loads of BBC, ITV and RTE from the 70's, 80's and 90's, sent one a few weeks ago, and never heard a thing.
I believe the listings are queued for approval. Mike and I have been a bit pre-occupied with the site of late, so this may account for a longer delay with listings submissions.
Found out The TV Room have Sky Movies presentaion (Sky Movies Premier,Sky Movies Max,Sky Movies Cinema) from 2001, but they haven't have information of them since 2008 , when they moved to current version of The TV Room.
Hope they can have information of them in new version of The TV Room....
The last time we updated the design of The TV Room and The TV Room + (back in 2006, so about 5 years ago) was a big change because we went from individual pages made by hand, to a custom built CMS system.
With this rebuilding of the site, we setup a template system to separate content from layout. So this new look will be relatively simple to put in place and will not impact the content this time.
The reason for some of the content being removed from the site, was due to the introduction of the CMS, but more importantly, it was the result of Mike re-capturing practically every image and every video from Analogue DigiBeta, VHS, etc formats, and archiving them in Digital formats.
There have been financial troubles, and technical ones over the past few years, equipment having to be replaced, and at one point almost loosing the hosting the site requires. Mike does all this archiving, formatting by himself, as well as day jobs, and charity work, so you will have to be a little patient for all the content returning.
But onto some good news, during the process of rebuilding this archive digitally, you will see in time, along with the updated CMS which Asa Hicks (the guy who started and runs TV Forum) has built, new features like searching, better use of Twitter and Facebook, and more things in time. Along with a totally new design, will come Much larger images, and in time, better video content.
We had hoped to have the new look up last autumn for the 10th anniversary of The TV Room, but sadly a number of things came up for Asa, Mike and myself, which meant it has been pushed back.
You can follow our Twitter Stream or Facebook page, and we will update them when the new look site is online.
