will 'The Ident Zone' start updating again, if 'T.V. Room' closes?

I am having trouble reaching my favourite news website.

www.b. b.c..co.uk/news doesn't work. Is anyone else having tris problem?

More importantly however I was thinking the other night. Essentially the only difference between all the pres sites is the UI used to gain access. (and may I add the TV Room has one of the best)

Therefore - would it be possible to set up some sort of private, moderated, P2P network (bittorrent or something?) to store the RM files on everyone's computers and therefore stop all the sites closing due to bandwidth?

Course it opens up all sort of possibilities like using the original AVI and MPEG files to reencode as WMV or something else and use different bittrates but that would be in the future obviously.

There's my thoughts anyway. And I didn't even make a snide remark about it all being due to the bloated HTML. Dammit.

I think its a sad situation, I doubt if the site went text only with stills it would save a significant amount of bandwidth to reduce costs. I do not know what to suggest personally, short of going for an advert blitz, with broadcaster's permission naturally.

Mike, I hope you can keep me updated on this...

Point taken but why offer to take the content from The Continuty Booth knowing that you have issues when another site may have taken up the offer to host their content for possibly longer depending on if your issues can be resolved?

Firstly, I wasn't aware then that I was going to have issues with the hosts. Secondly, TV Room Plus will remain online.

I'm not sure what sort of spec you need, but I might be able to help you out- I've got a fair bit of spare bandwidth/space.

MSN or e-mail (preferrably MSN) me if you're interested and I'll see if I can accommodate you: james@jamesomalley.co.uk

This thread has probably been as productive as it's going to get. Anyone who wishes to speak to me about the hosting issue can e-mail me directly at one of the TV Room site addresses.

no it wouldn't, the drain is obviously the RM files.

Course you could always do a TV Home and use external free hosts. Even one of these file sending sites that have popped up of late such as osdn.com or rapidshare.de

But it's the hassle really, it's so much easier having everything on the tv room.

Correct. I've been down the road of hosting the media files externally before. It's a major headache; especially an operation that originates in the US - you can wait days for a response. There's a lot to be said for having direct contact with a host. All those 'unlimited bandwidth' deals that you see here there and everywhere - do you really believe that?!?! If you like the thought of being able to download one third of a .rm file only to have the connection to the server terminate, then yes, $6/month hosts are the ideal solution.

You could either let another person use the site or you could merge with another one. Maybe merge with TV Whirl and be TV Whirl Room!

What's happened with the continuity booth though? I read you were going to keep the brand.I havent seen the files either.

That's even stupider than your comment about ITV News

As I have pointed out already, I am not merging with another site. That does not resolve the issue.

As for Continuity Booth - the content is being transferred gradually. If you'd care to read the statements produced by TV Room and TCB, you would know that the intention is to transfer the material across over a couple of months. That process is already well underway. And yes, the brand will be retained in certain areas - The Continuity Booth is the sub-heading for TV Announcers at present. It will also shortly be introduced under TV Features.

No one wants to see The TV Room go - but alas no one would be willing to pay for it too!

I don't know how effective a PayPal thing would be for you, or advertising (I've no problem with that as long as it's not pop-ups!)

I agree with the keep it simple idea and concentrate on the main areas - keep files at a sensible size - but I'm sure you've considered all this before!

The only other thing I can suggest is rather than merging with another site, see if you come to some kind of agreement so that the sites still run seperately, but you link to the same videos.

And just to think I only headed over to your site to consider how you'd be handling the ITV revamp!

With TV World and TV Home gone, and the future of The TV Room looking dodgy, I fear the TV Ark may also find itself disappearing soon!
