Just wondering how things are going with the new forum Asa. Any news on a launch date?

'Fraid not, Rob. It's patiently sitting on my local server at the moment in a decent state but still with a lot to do. I've had a busy few months with work and a couple of other things which has meant no time to work on TVF. But it's far enough down the road that it won't be abandoned and I hope to find some time and a bit of enthusiasm again to get back on it.

I'm a bit gutted at the moment as my PC corrupted a couple of months ago and I had to mess about with a couple of hard drives, backing up as much as I could etc. and I thought I had a copy of the TV Home folder I've used since 1999 which contained all the uploads, hundreds of versions of the pages that used to be on the site, a lot of early content from TV Forum (back in the static file Ikonboard days) and believed I had a couple of CD backups of it. So I wiped the hard drive, reinstalled everything then noticed my backup disc wasn't complete so I've lost several years worth of TV Home content Sad It's not the end of the world but there was some nice nostalgia stuff in there.

Just out of pure interest Asa, what is your job, I assume someone with your programming still works in programming or computers of some sort?

Yeah, I'm known as a "application developer". I work as part of an inhouse team for a company maintaining their website and developing their internal systems which the various departments use. One of my recent projects has been to develop a CMS to get the itty-bitty work out of our department and into others to maintain their content. It's a nice job but the nature of it means coming home and coding hasn't been a high priority!

And after writing that message yesterday I thought I'd have one last look at finding a backup CD and I did - over 57,000 files in that TV Home folder! Nice to have it back.

How come the "Your message has been posted" confirmation page shows a outdated version of phpBB?

*

Is the phpBB software installed on the TVF server really 17 security update increments behind the latest release?

I don't think there is any need to have ago a Asa. Everyone has other priorities in their life.

As with Martin handing over Metropol to Gavin, is Asa not going to do the same to someone now he is busier with other things?

I wasn't having a go at Asa at all, far from it. I was simply enquiring whether or not the forum really does have an older
version of phpBB installed. Especially since a lot of known phpBB security holes have been fixed since phpBB 2.0.5.

If the current incarnation of TVF is still using phpBB 2.0.5, ideally it could do with being updated to the latest version.

Well metropol was 16 behind until the other night.

IIRC it's not that bad, its just TVF is so hacked there is a lot of hard coded sections and that footer happens to be one of them.
