In the Requests section of this forum could you let everyone view the posts but have all links/media under a block like this from the Alternate ZTT Boards site.

(I have put it under a 'Spoiler' tag as it will overshoot the edge.)

Then at least everyone can see the conversations taking place because if you can view the menu why can't you read the discussions.

Just a suggestion.

Must admit I've never seen the point of forums blocking guests from reading posts.

How do they expect to get new members, if you can't even see what's being discussed?

It's no real detriment when certain forums are blocked, but it does annoy me when certain forums block all boards, have admin approval for new accounts, and then reveal a stale forum without any posts. Most of the time it's done, I presume, when there's a problem with spam accounts joining.

I agree, I think it's an unnecessary and daft barrier when the whole point is to try and attract members. It's bad enough really that we have to moderate registrations rather than just let people on.

I don't think I change the current logic though, it would be some work involved to blank out links and things if you weren't logged in. The reason it's hidden behind a login is because I think it's the one area of the site that should be for us forumers to just share some good downloads amongst ourselves.

To answer a couple of questions, the PM 2nd page is a bug and a good idea for previous usernames which I'll put in. I've not had much of a chance to update Neon lately but will hopefully soon. Thankfully there doesn't seem to be any major issues running both old and new alongside each other.

One page that has been half done but isn't linked yet is http://neon.tvforum.co.uk/forums/overnights if you want to see how well you're doing on the leaderboard!

With the overnights stuff, wouldn't a percentage based scoring system be better than the current cumalative score, because if someone joins the site in a years time, they're going to have no hope of getting near the top of the table.

Over the road we use a system where you can join but your first post needs approved. That usually kills off the members where the first post is "come and buy my dodgy viagra" or "hello, it's me james martin"

In Firefox it's only displaying the up arrow on all users. Chrome and Safari are showing the correct arrows.

The sooner the better on that one please Asa, the fact that itsmichaeladams has changed his username after just 3 weeks on the forum is to put it frankly "taking the piss".

Given that I requested a username change in January and was refused, also is a bit off.

Not sure why it would be rejected unless it was offensive or had already been taken. Feel free to request it again, your last change was way back in 2009.

Having some restriction on people changing usernames so quickly would probably make sense.

Is TV Forum testing out HTTP Secure? I'm getting "https://www.tvforum.co.uk" in my address bar sometimes (not on Neon).
