Has it changed again? (December 2006)

Excuse me one moment. ASA!!!! AAAAAAASSSSSAAAAA! GET DOWN HERE AND DO SOME EXPLAINING!

OK, my point is I personally came across TVF Beta on Eurovision night, when TVF opened a Eurovision chat thing, and I noticed the start of the domain was http://www.tvforumbeta.co.uk/.... At this point, I went to the homepage and the message "TV Forum Beta, New For 2006" was there above a picture of some clouds. Now, let me tell you something, there isn't too long until the end of 2006. Where's the new stuff?

Also, observe that on the current TV Forum Beta, the title bar says "one day...". Is there going to be like a single day where it opens for people to try?

Answers needed Asa, answers needed. Everyone down here on the "users" floor is getting a bit confused.

He said he wasn't gonna do it I think because he couldn't find the time and now the site was good enough because it goes faster now

Asa has been working hard on certain other sites, and of course has a life of his own. (see, I can be nice)

Quelle horreur!

But you make a good point, one which many people should remember. This site is good enough for most of our needs and Asa is a human, he can't just devote his life to the building and testing of this new software.

Hymagumba is pretty much bang on with what's happened. The beta site will turn up one day but the clouds/2006 message seemed wrong after the server move stuff considering I knew it wouldn't be ready so I replaced it with some daft effect done in 30secs in Paint Shop Pro.

As to the software, I've not done much with it recently but all the registration stuff, main sections and session management is in so it's in pretty good shape. There's only so much you can do with a forum so I'm sure you won't be blown away! The design is much cleaner, crisper and each page actually looks consistent though, and with tableless code and much better use of CSS, hopefully it should be pretty efficient and cross compliant (menus!)

They'll be a few new features - find a page of a thread by date as well as page number, page number links etc. One idea to help with long running threads may be to have an index page and members who think a link to their post should appear in the index can flag it up. (Say it's a first post giving a hint of what to expect from a new look in the N24 thread etc..)

A lot of the changes will be for mods really - username requests, instead of coming to my PM inbox (where I often forget I'm afraid!) can be flagged up in your Profile page along with what username you'd like and then one of the mods can simply allow it. They'll also be the option to automatically register with Metropol at the same time.

And yes, the regional settings return! Out of interest is it worth giving the option to choose subregions in a second dropdown box? Does anyone have a definitive list? And what about Thames Valley - should that be classed as a region?

As to tvfi.co.uk, that hosts the images as the bandwidth allocation is at its limit each month for pure HTML/CSS pages.

Cheers, Asa

So that explains why it's taking a long time for me to have my username changed.

Isn't that the reason why those anti talkbackTHAMES signatures are about?

It's nice to see them return but I wouldn't class Thmaes Valley as a region. Seeing as you've let us keep Carlton/ LWT, Scottish, Grampian and HTV West/Wales I'm quite sure that forumers would rather have their regions classed as Central South (or Meridian) as it takes us back to the olden days when regional identity was strong. Cool

I know someone who's upset about Central being killed by ITV and he was even more upset when Central South went out like a light last weekend as he lives in the region. He has recorded the last ever Central South news programme and they can be found right here.
