The revenue from ads isn't necessarily that great, and I imagine the hosting cost is fairly high due to bandwidth used.
Personally I prefer InfinateCore Technology to PHPBB. It is going to be publically release within a fortnight and will have additional plugin modules such as home page modules. I know that it's developers have heavily tested it on servers that recieve high traffic, and the bugs they've found have all been fixed. The problem PHPBB has is that it is fairly buggy and fixes keep having to be released, I don't think this site is using the latest PHPBB version.
Nope it's a pretty old version that's been run here, I was on the same version for the bulletin board as TV Forum is which I installed for my company, but hackers got into it and I had to upgrade regardless.

I don't like vbulletin. It's very bloated from what I've seen of it.
A lot of sites seem to be using stuff like drupal with a full CMS which includes a forum. But for somewhere like this a dedicated message board program is what is needed and they all are a bit rubbish.
It dosen't seem slow today though, remember Asa dosen't get paid for doing TV Forum, so we have to appreciate the work in providing this facility to us television presentation anoraks, it's really hard to get phpBB to like this you know!
Oh nonsense. If TV Forum closed down a million wannabe TV Forums would spring up, with people happily paying the hosting costs just to get a taste of "the power". Want an example? Take Metropol (Although unlike most sites it's rapidly overtaken TV Forum in almost every respect)

[Ding Dong]
Could the member with the computer please stop talking such utter rubbish. Thank you.
I wouldn't say that, it's true if TVF closed down now a good few imitators would pop up to take its place but Metropol became big because it's userbase was already well established here with The Lounge and is well connected with TVF. It's surpassed because it's a much more looser setup and lacks most of the dongles here.
Whatever though, TVF is one heck of a coding undertaking and help anyone who wanted to step up and do it better. Thing is, the server it's running on is shared hence why the whole setup is slow. Whatever software was running the boards it'd still be slow so whilst it'd be good to suggest porting to the bloated sagging arsecrack of vBulletin I doubt it'd lessen the connection outages.
There is a gap in the market for such a forum/site.
Media UK's forums are now severely moderated and only open to a select few media individuals.
Digital Spy is ridiculously over-moderated, and one of the most difficult sites to navigate. It also has a huge membership, which makes it annoying if you're trying to put a valid point across, because as soon as you post something in a thread, by the time you've hit refresh, the thread has grown by 2 more pages.
TV Forum - slow, and dare-I-say-it, lost it's way. It still focuses on the anorak element of television presentation, and in turn attracts the lower forms of life, such as an army of 14 year olds with little or no grasp of basic grammar skills.
I'm not aware of any other similarly veined sites. A decent broadcasting (including radio) forum and site is needed. UK Radio exists, but it's poorly maintained and has a very small readership.
Unless you have a personally identifiable email address such as "joe.bloggs@bbc.co.uk" or "john.smith@jsmith.com" they won't let you in!
Indeed, but you said "a select few media individuals" - anyone can join so long as they have a verifiable address.
Equidem posted:
Even then it is also strictly moderated, as it was a couple of years ago when it was open to everyone.
Not so, there are no 'moderators' in the traditional sense and James Cridland hardly rules with an iron fist. The fact that everyone is posting under their real name keeps most people in order, most of the time.
If you want to make mischief, there are plenty of other forums for that.
