The ads are served up by Google. Did you see what it was advertising or had the browser already disabled it? There's some option to disable certain URLs/networks from showing up but I'd need to know what it was. It's a pain as you'd think Google would have some system in place to quickly stop them from showing.

I've got pop ups disabled on my browser but they still find their way through. I don't know exactly what it was for, but it opens a new window and displays a lengthy dialog box saying something along the lines of "YOUR [phone model] IS INFECTED AND JUST BE PROTECTED." It goes on from there but it kicks the phone off vibrating excessively like there was a call being received. It gives options something along the lines of "OK" and "Close" but I fret pressing either of them incase both of them link to something dodgy. The only way I can close it is by tapping the back button as quick as I can and hitting the Tabs button before it appears again, and swipe it away.

It's either a developer with some horrid marketing ideas or its malicious. Either way, it's a bugger to get rid of when it triggers.

Managed to get a screenshot this time from the trusted folks at shwynnywsddwsw... I'm guessing they're Welsh.

They must think people are gullible. It's obvious that the app is the virus, not whatever is already on there. A genuine message would come AFTER the virus scanning software is already installed.

Indeed and its not just popup alerts on webpages. People circulate celebrity death news on social media without bothering to look at the dates or do any other research - Tony Hart (of Take Hart and Morph fame) apparently died at least twice on Twitter and Facebook - the same thing happened with Leslie Nielsen.

2016's latest "victim" in the world of celebrity deaths - actor Gene Wilder of Willy Wonka, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein fame - may also apparently die again in 2020 - all thanks to gullible people.

I've had the same pop-up. Glad to hear it's an issue with TVF/Google and not malware on my phone!
