Can one of the mods explain the decision to merge the thread about the Bid relaunch into the existing Bid thread? People are after all being encouraged to create new threads about significant developments and it makes sense as those who don't want to read the day to day stuff can become aware of the big stuff. Is this just one mod who's out of step with everyone else on the forum or did The TV Forum Team not deem it worthy of it's own thread?

It's puzzling, surely an important relaunch during a crucial time for channel/company is worthy of its own thread? When Good Morning Britain launches will the Daybreak thread just get renamed, etc etc
It makes no sense whatsoever. When any other channel rebrands, we get a locked sticky thread up to when the change happens, which then opens and replaces the old thread.
I remember a time when the Mods used to be open and up front. Does anybody actually know who they are nowadays? They seem to be hidden behind a generic "Team" username.

The trouble is, though, when I was a moderator here from 2001-2008 I was open and up front and I was criticised for being too draconian. I was always locking, merging and splitting threads and reminding members to stay on topic and not be abusive etc. But I used to get pulled to shreds by several members, some of whom are still in our midst. Moderating is a thankless task and it is impossible to please everyone.

What has caused this recent technical problem is mainly down to the fact two pollo opposite request have come in to play and nearly everyone is confused.

I'm sure you know it's myself, Bail and Charlie Wells - as it has been for years! And I don't remember us ever been called open and upfront, I'm sure I'd have remembered that compliment
In all seriousness, it's a battle to get members to create new threads so we should keep topics split but only if it makes sense. Maybe in this instance the topic could have been given a less generic title and have continued.

Exactly. Every decision you make as a moderator will potentially upset somebody, be it the person who's post you are editing or the person who reported something you don't feel requires action.

Evening all. I made a slightly lewd post over on Metropol a few days ago. Since then, I've been contacted by numerous individuals on various spin off websites encouraging me to push my idea forward seriously, so I'm going to.
From my perspective, many threads (but most particularly the ones relating to GMTV and its successors) are basically impenetrable due to the amount of discussion relating to the presenters. What I actually care about is what the programme(s) will look like - in the case of Good Morning Britain I've no idea if that's already been revealed, and if it hasn't, I'll probably be unlikely to notice because I've taught myself to ignore that thread.
I don't have much interest in News programming, but I'm informed that this problem is also rife in The Newsroom.
I think it would be a good idea separate off discussion relating to Presenters to a separate forum. This would allow both The Newsroom and TV Home Forum to focus properly on presentation and all the technical gubbins, which I feel is what most of the long time members are here for.
