I have a suggestion for a feature:

Closing request threads once the “mark as answered” box has been clicked.

Recently, people have jumped in on other people’s requests thread, asking for things.

Now I understand how it might be easier to do it that way, but not when it’s off topic.

Take WWTBAM for example, I asked for the 2007 cues, Bail very kindly gave them to me. All of a sudden the conversation jumps to WWTBAM Australia and another user asking for themes.

Surely by now we know who has what and who doesn’t. It’s just a little pet peeve of mine.

As I say, I do understand that requesting a theme or packages in the same thread might be easier.

Think I'd probably rather find ways to encourage people to create new threads rather than automatically closing ones - someone may just want to ask the poster if they've got another variation of what's been uploaded.

General etiquette in that forum may be improved anyway soon as the new permissions will stop anyone just signing up and only posting requests, making it a bit more for those who bother contributing to the rest of the site.

Work has also been put in to block posts that quote a crazy amount then just submit a one line reply. It's laziness and not a very decent thing to do - you should either quote the part you're referencing, or just leave it out if the flow of the thread makes it obvious who/what you are talking about.

I know we're all on superfast broadband connections and whatever but when I first came online in the days of dial-up, on some forums they promoted forum etiquette, something like this:
https://www.thespruce.com/forum-etiquette-1216951

Because it was all dial-up at the time, it was also very much frowned upon to post an image that was some ridiculous dimension and some massive file size, as it would take half a lifetime to download and rarely worth the wait, and woe betide you if you quoted it and added another one!

I still use this etiquette style today for joining in on online forums, even if some people think they're an anachronism.

Not sure I'd agree it's always laziness. Editing the quote in a mobile browser can be a painful experience.

I agree, especially if there are nested quotes.

Perhaps having quotes collapsed by default would be a better solution, or to show part of a quote if it is over a certain length with a "Read More" button?

Anyone else having the same issue on mobile? The homepage displays correctly but each forum.shows as it does on desktop and not like it used to be, very tiny. I've got a Samsung s10+...

Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Mobile Site.

If that doesn't work, and you're using the stock browser, make sure you haven't got desktop view checked in your settings.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I've just visited a forum that allows you to highlight text and a button will pop up to quote just that section, which is quite neat.

Fair point on the usability on mobile too.

Ah, I assume that forum was running Xenforo? I haven't seen anywhere running vBulletin have that.

Yes, that's how Media Spy works.

I think it was an Invision board, but they may be using an extension. Probably only works for text but should be good enough for most cases here, and the usual quote link would still be available.

Having done a bit of Googling I didn't realise how many forum software solutions there are available these days. And the prices of some Shocked
