Classic moments! Happy 10th Birthday TV Forum, gosh I remember when you were in black and white! (didn't Angela Rippon say that on the TV Ark vid? Smile )

I've been here since 2004 (18 ), I went from Andrew Wiseman's 625 to Richard Bell's TV World (or Zone, I can't remember) to Television Ark to TV Room and so on and was basically looking for somewhere to discuss these sites and the general state of TV at the time (I seem to remember I had a real grudge with ITV and EastEnders back in the day) so along came TV Forum.

It has to be said but back then we used to start topics on pretty much anything - nowadays it's all a little bit organised or "grouped together". I think this is also due to the way television has been repeating itself a lot more within the last 10 years.. ie. same reality show style stuff. Whether this is good or bad is a matter of opinion. I don't tend to spend much time on here as I used to... mainly due to work, the invention of twitter, Youtube and numerous other nonsense.

Members have come and gone (or are here under another guise!) but here's to the next 10 years!

A decade. What a scary thought. A huge thanks to everyone, past and present who have visited, posted and supported the site over the years. Much appreciated, and here's to the future.

I've begun to convert some of the old 2001 Ikonboard topics over (makes for interesting reading). Couldn't make it for the big day itself but hope to have a decent archive minisite up and running in the near future.

Oh, that will be interesting. What happened the TV Forum Archive? It looked quite nice, lol. Also I thought all pre-2003 topics were lost?

Happy 10th Birthday indeed. I was another that joined within the first few days (though didn't post for about the first year I'm sure). I guess I was quite old joining at the age of 18 too by the looks of this thread so far...

I have plenty of memories, and have made lots of friends through this here site, so it's not been all bad.

And we must thank Asa for the site's existance, but also all the contributors past and present that has made this site what it is (whether we like them or not).

Ah yes ... the catastrophic TVForum database meltdown of January 2003, I remember that! IIRC, all posts since the
transition from the old Ikonboard forum to phpBB, up until one fateful day 8 yrs ago, and everyone's postcounts
got reset to zero. I can't remember the exact date when I first joined TVF, but I'm sure it was after the transition
to phpBB, and definitely before the entire forum database went titsup.com!

I wonder if anyone on the forum still has two sound files that were pretty popular in the forum's heyday:

Arrow The 1999 BBC News / ,Mad World mix
Arrow The 1999 mock that mixed the 90's Nine O'Clock News theme with the BBC News generic era.

If anyone has them, please upload them. Thanks. Very Happy

Mad World mix (audio only):

Ten years seems a long time... back then (when I was 30 Wink ) and living out in the Greek islands, sites like the following were a link to home:

Andrew Wiseman's 625 http://625.uk.com/
Darren Meldrum's MHP http://www.meldrum.co.uk/mhp/
Sean Hughes' TV Logos http://tv50.org.uk/main.menu
Damien Cahill's Teilifis http://www.iol.ie/~teilifis/index.html
Mike Brown's MB21 http://www.mb21.co.uk/index.shtml
Mike McGonagle's TV Room http://www.thetvroom.com
Jim Edward's TV World http://home.clara.net/jim.edwards
and of course, Asa Hicks' TV Home http://tvhome.co.uk/

A lot of others have been and gone, others have gone from strength to strength - for example Transdifussion and TV Ark - and yet more have begun and have developed - Rob Francis' TV Live, and with others on their way.

It was the early sites that were the inspiration for me to put together my two interests in web coding and TV graphics to produce the Greek TV Idents site back in 1999, and of course, The Ident Gallery a few years back.

Throughout, TV Forum has been a daily read and I'm pleased to have been a part of it from the original message board part of TV Home right to the present day.

As someone might say - Cheers, Asa!

I can't remember when I originally joined what was then the TV Home Forum, I think it was a few months after it launched (when I was 19 and still at uni!) having become disillusioned with the other media discussion hub of the time, the MHP Chat Mailing List.

For all the foibles, there are still some threads that keep bringing me back to TV Forum; mainly the nostalgic ones of late which you certainly didn't get so regularly before. And although I hardly watch TV as much as I did 10 years ago, the Forum can still be useful in keeping me informed of upcoming stuff like relaunches.

Thanks to Asa, all the mods down the years and everyone who's chipped in; will we be here in 10 years' time?

Nothing much more to say other than to thank contributors past and present for making the place what it is today. Ten years online is a mighty feat and TVF remains the first place I visit.

And of course a special thanks to Asa and the moderation team for keeping the site ticking over. It's truly appreciated. Wink

I'm amazed no-one's mentioned Jarongate yet. That has to be the most memorable TVF saga ever. Better than any soap opera.

You also got a better class of loony in the old days - dubble_bubble_nath and his nuclear mocks spring to mind.

and of course tomd and his netoworks, max and his dad's pron site, pointless pannnell, jarongate #2, jarongate #3, Hedgehog Online and all the other amazing events.

BTW, Metropol is currently celebrating the 10th anniversary of TV Forum's second day online (which of course was the day it started to be "not as good as it used to be")
