My earliest memories of TV Ark is coming across the site back in about 2000 and quickly going off it, as the clips (which at the time were represented by *tiny* pictures) required this thing called 'RealPlayer' which I'd never heard of!
Didn't it have a weird URL in those days, something like bognor.freeserve.co.uk?
Who said anything about tape grabs? With software like Flash or CardMaker we can blow things up to as big as you like - did you have a specific resolution in mind?
None in particular, just that what'd be your wallpaper content choices if that is going to be what people want? Things that can be easily reproducible in Flash (CardMaker I'm unsure of, Google only brought up greeting card software) like clocks or test cards are alright, it's things that can't be reproduced like Christmas idents or anything less graphical such as program slides or more complex idents. That's why I mention tapegrabs and not being able to resize without degradation.

Yeah sommat about Bognor was in the URL, no stand out domain names back in those days.
Those small pictures and using Real Player were the norm back then even on Jim Edwards TV World website. Whilst it looks small and pathetic now, back then thats what we made do with when things were in black and white and you had enough money for a Curly Wurly and bus fare home!
Of course in those days, an average MP3 file would take about 15-20 minutes to download on dial up which is why I was just happy to take a MIDI file of it instead!

I think I discovered it in 2000 as well. It was great back then - TV Ark, The TV Room, TV Home, TV World, Round The Regions to name but a few. It's such a shame that many of these sites have gone under now. I wish the clips on TV World would be made live again as there are some great things I would love to see again. The current stuff Jim uploaded then is very much archival now!
I discovered TV Ark about 2000/1, all I remember was that the downloads took forever and I couldn't get my old PC with Windows 98 to download Real Player as it took ages on an old 56k, which when I originally got hooked to the internet you had to pay for by the minute not like now where you pay montly for as much as you like.
Ditto to the other comments, TV World was a fab site, the downloads were quick! Although we never knew what happened to poor Jim, just disappeared after October 2001. TV50 was also one the first sites I came across aswell, again although thats still online (I think) shame it isn't updated.
TV Ark and The TV Room are the last of the old style sites, with the advent of YouTube I doubt we'll see as many pres sites again as we once did. But on the same level we've come across many gems on YouTube.

I run http://www.nztvpres.com ! which is quite possibly the first and only New Zealand TV presentation site! I've got lots of old caps too add too.
I first discovered TV Ark however in about December 2003, I found it the same day I found TVF!

Although, if you check his site you'll see he did return briefly with the intent to update the site.
I discovered TV Ark via my mate Dan who never really got into pres as much as me, but still enjoys watching the vids now and then. That was in 2002. He played me the vid of BART and the dots, which had me hooked from then on as it rekindled the fascination with those schools clocks I had as a kid. Slowly I worked my way around other sections of the site and discovered more sites like Sub TV.

Wasn't that because somebody hacked into it? I remember that the Forums were still going and someone from there managed to hack in apparently, although I'm not sure how much truth there was to it.
Is Sub TV still updated? That is a very good resource site.
I use to email Jim Edwards activately back in 1999 as he use to live quite close to me. I think he mentioned there was family problems, he never went into it, I never really want to delve into things that people don't want to come out with.
Don't forget "crossover televisision" another site of its heyday Maybe one day it will come back, it looks lovely on my C: drive in its half state lol

You did a good job with that one Russ, considering your site was the only one that had clips of ITV from 31/12/92 and 1/1/93, long before other sites did too. Although it's bugging me what was the name of Whatadays site that you passed Crossover Television to before that shut too.
