I have just seen the revamped TV Ark forum and I must say it is very impressive with lots of different sections catering for varied interests. Alas, I feel that the TV Ark forum is now preferable to this forum as TV Forum offers nothing that TV Ark doesn't now. On top of that the TV Ark forum is a lot more grown -up and civilised than this place and less banal too. Although this is still a worthy forum has it's time now ran out I wonder ? Is it past its sell by date ? More importantly has it already served it's purpose ? Is there anything left to talk about with regards to TV pres or has everything already been said countless times before ? On a more controversial note, is it now time to close this site down ?
While TV Forum may be littered with 12 year old simpletons, TV Ark has been ruined by weatherproof anoraks who dream of a day when the BBC balloon and testcard will return to their television sets. I know where I'd rather be. Where TV Forum sees a bit of fun in the whole sad subject, TV Ark takes itself a smidgen too seriously.

Then by all means, feel free to cease your posts here. Are we only permitted to have one forum of this type on the internet?
In any case, if you see TV Forum as childish, then having only TV Ark would allow us kids to interrupt your flow of debate wouldn't it? You only need to see the topics in TV Ark to see that both sites cater for slightly different audiences and discussions: "Children In Need 1987", "Alan Taylor MR & MRS Host for HTV version", Good health (1984) clip". A forum full of that would probably encourage me to turn to alcoholism.

I would emphatically disagree with that statement.

And I would suggest that you could apply that argument to ANY website, let alone TV Ark.
Believe it or not, I think there
might
just be room for two forums in this town. TV pres is not exactly the most competitive genre in the world, is it?
I am a member of both forums, and i do say i prefer TV Arks forum, especially now with the re-vamp.
My reasons for this is, i may not know a lot about TV presentation, so i ask a lot. On this forum i tend to get very rude and obnoxious replies basically saying i'm stupid, whereas on TV Ark i get proper answers, the answer to the question i've actually ASKED!
Also when i do MOCKS, whenever i post them on here i either don't get any comments at all, or i get comments that say "I don't like it". Well excuse me but you may not like it but just SAYING you don't like it is just pathetic, at least give me some points on how to make it better. On TV-Arks forum they will always praise you for trying even if it is rubbish, and always give you very good constructive criticism.
So i know which is my favourite. I do like this forum, its just the way that some of my posts are replied to is the bit i don't like.
Also, TV Arks forum always works. Whenever i'm on here its always really slow, and sometimes never works at all
Sometimes when I come on here, I get the 'TV forum is too busy' screen, due to too many people on the site.
When I do manage to access the page, it says there are only 20 odd users online. Yet I can access the site perfectly well in the evenings when there are 30-50 users online!

FAB FIONA
's common sense guide to asking questions/making requests on TV Forum (approved by Specsavers):
1. Use key words/phrases in TV Forums search engine to check and see if a request/question relating to your query has been made in TV Forum forums before this time. If a same/similiar request has
not
been made, proceed to Step 2. Otherwise, stop.
2. Create a query. Request for copies of audio/visual media should be made in the "Requests" forum, as should requests like "What's the name of the music on the blah blah..." Other requests, such as "Why was ITV1 off air earlier on?" or "Why is Louise Berridge staying at Eastenders?" can be made in the main forum. ( FAB FIONA cannot guarantee that certain members will not demand that such requests be moved to the "Requests" forum). When creating a query use full correct English to prevent hostilities. Don't use "txt spk" as most members despise it, that means a big no-no on "gr8" "ne1" etc...
So you see, a lot of people making requests tend to skip Step 1 and make a terribly bad attempt at Step 2. In my opinion, it is little wonder sometimes that established members get annoyed at questions.
But i ask completly legitimate questions in the right sections and i DID search for the questions before, yet i still get these sorts of replies.
Anyways, why should i search through hundreds of posts to find what i need. The point in a forum is that you ask a question or start a discussion and people reply. Why should i start replying to a thread that died a long time ago, i want to start a fresh one thankyou.
And if you are that worried about the forum space, just prune topics after a certain amount of time
Noooo, don't prune! I love browsing the old threads from July '03 on the main forum, and January '03 on the Media Websites and Mock Designs forums. Perhaps they could be put into an archive, but it would be silly to delete a piece of history.
