Is it the actual opinions you don't like, or the fact that the commentary is there at all?
Well, a factual commentary of changes and developments is one thing, but an editorial of what the writer likes and dislikes is another.
TV Ark's Simon posted:
The BBC ONE logo adopted the "box" style of BBC2 and was positioned in the bottom left corner of the screen. Lorraine Heggessey says the new idents - with disabled dancers and various races - reflect the BBC's "own internationalism and multiculturalism". But opponents have slated their "token political correctness" and some believe they say nothing about the channel.
The station clock has been dropped, leaving the channel with no suitable presentation for news and serious programming.
The idents were designed by Lambie-Nairn, at a cost of £700,000. Remember the BBC can only do this because of the unique way it is funded. By us.
There is no clock, that is true, but I don't think that means that the idents leading into news and serious programming are unsuitable. Its a matter of opinion.
I know the idents cost £70k a pop - that is what these things cost. To add the "funded by us" just demonstrates that Simon doesn't like how the money has been spent. Perhaps if it was a globe with the clock face costing the same amount then he would never have raised the issue of money?
Thats really what I'm saying - as a resource for fans of presentation it is excellent. To pepper it with one man's opinion detracts from it badly.
Simon, I appreciate the acknowledgment of my point, but as you have no intentions of comprimising then there's not much more to be said.
Having said that, if I have not quoted the cost of previous rebrands it's probably because I didn't have the information to hand at the time of writing. This time round I made sure I filed the press cuttings; I'm hoping those about the balloon launch are in the attic somewhere.
Is it just me, or is the TV Ark forum member LWTforever (who I have noticed has recently re-registered as LWTforever1- why?) getting on anyone else's nerves? His posts seem to be rather non-sensical jibberish that reminds me of www_dot_tomd (Anyone who was on TV Forum around 18 months ago will know who he is).
No disrespect to him, but I am getting tired of ITV bashing threads or Anti-Carlton threads that constantly appear on TVA Forum, though it's still good.
(BTW I'm not nwtv2003 on there, I'm Steve_G)
That entire forum seems to be a bit of a lost cause. It seems like every day there are at least 2 new threads about the lack of regional idents on ITV1, one about Central still using the 'Central England' bit and one about lack of regional branding in London. How many times can you talk about the same thing!
Even more annoying is that these primary school kids seem to contact the ITV duty office about these minor presentation issues. "The announcer last night said ITV1 Carlton why?" I'll e-mail the ITV duty office", and then they actually do do!

We have just recruited a new moderator whose job it is to raise standards on the TV Ark forum. Hopefully we can avoid going further down the slippery slope than we have done; my personal apologies for the abusive and pointless messages which have been posted.
I visit TV Ark often and visit it specifically for the video clips. The editorial does not bother me. Its his site, therefore he should be able to stamp his own commentary, as long as it is not offensive. Freedom of speech guys!!!

Yes, he can put what he wants on his site (is it Lux ton's site?), But:
He can't make people like the editorial style (and it seems many don't). And as we've seen, free speech can get you into trouble!
I think as the message has now been removed, this thread can be brought to a close.
It may be a good point here to mention the fact that people who are talked about, whether on a website written by the webmaster or a forum written by members, do sometimes read what has been written.
Therefore please think before pressing Submit. If you can't substantiate a claim or feel it is unnecessarily offensive or potentially upsetting to the individual, don't say it.
