Temporary Lounge

I've set one up (April 2003)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

I don't know about the other moderators, but I don't see a problem with this thread. We're only closing threads which are complaining about the closure of the Lounge - if we didn't allow a thread for alternatives, then how would everybody know where to go?

I wasn't "simply complaining" though - my thread was an opportunity for everyone to review their behaviour and also a look at how the removal of such a privelidge could affect the rest of the site, and that people should think more about that if we get it back, using the problems at Media UK as an example.

I certainly was not having a moan.

with all these 'alternative' forums appearing maybe it would be worth while deciding on ONE forum that we use, instead of different people saying I have a forum, come and use it!

If there is a need for it, and people want an alternative to The Lounge, I can set a forum up on my own server, which is fast and reliable, but only if I think there a need to.

comments, ideas, complaints, any feedback?!

Is it worth bothering?
One of the reasons behind "The Lounge" being closed were the insults / slanging matches and general abuse.

One alternative has already closed because of this, and another has already had an inocent thread turned into a slgging off thread (so far a single post) Sad

I have made a froum, in progress, it isn't a temp lounge. The closure said something about 'making a froum for general chit chat' it's what I'm doing. I'll link soon, I'm trying to do the colours

I agree with you completely AcerKev. Any attempt at directing all of TV Forum's members to another Lounge style forum website will just bring with it the same problems we had here, which makes it not worth bothering with.

I have sympathy for Asa and appreciate the reasons why he closed The Lounge, so I wouldn't want to see any other goodminded person to suffer under the same abusive, whingy and worryingly pathetic mentality that the moderation team here have had to have put up with lately from a select few of its members.

I'm getting a strange feeling of deja-vu here...for a moment I thought I was living Summer 2002 all over again.

Tv Forum is going through a bad patch.

Let's hope the Lounge removal works for the best in here.

Why? This is the exact same problem as last time. Someone gets in with their forum first (last time, it was me), and then everyone wants a taste of power, so they set up a forum. The only way this will really work is if one member's forum (BBC TV Centre gets my vote, as his was first) is designated an 'official' replacement by the moderators.

Trust me, I write from experience.

I do not feel I am being inappropriate by suggesting that http://www.rtsnet.tv/ already has a growing community of posters and would welcome more. There is Intellectual Intercourse for serious conversation on any subject and Sh'ts & Giggles where moderation is more relaxed and slightly more tangental threads are part and parcel.

As with most other sites you will need to register to post but this is extremely quick. It does require you to click and link in an email to activate your account but after doing so, which should take no longer than a couple of minutes, you can get posting straight away.

At the moment I do not have a problem with TV Forum members using the RTSNET to continue general conversation. As I said people are already using the site so it is by no means dead.

Nice bit of free corporate promotion there RTS Wink Well Played!!

I think there should be 1 and 1 only, or more competition will continue to take place between the numerous other ones.

I also think that TV Forum needs a Lounge, or threads that shouldn't be in the main forum, but in the lounge will creep into the main forum and the main forum will be degraded further.
