Unfortunatly, because of copyright laws and regulations, Identz will no longer be able to provide clean MP3's of music which are broadcast by the BBC without a copyright notice imbedded into the file.

All sound files on the site have been removed, and the only way you will be able to hear the sounds again is if a watermark is placed on the files. I'm currently working on this, and BBC News files will return in the New Year.

There more information on Identz if your're interested. I have told Asa about the problems that could arise with Sound Central Sad

Jamez, I'm really sorry to hear that - I truely am, but I have warned you in the past about the copyright issues.

Good luck with the watermarking

I'll be honest about this that I know nothing about copyright laws but if your putting music onto a website, do you need a licence from MCPS or sommat similar to those initials?

Jamez. I think this should really be aimed at Bail as it's in his signature, but it's your web site.
Can I suggest that you remove the following file from your server before the wrath of BBC lawyers lands on you heavily...

It seems to me as if BT or whoever have contacted you, they want to show that they have asked you to deal with such material, so they can not be held reponsible if the BBC do come along and visit.

With or without a watermark, it's still breaking copyright, the file has been put on the internet for the public without the permission of the copyright holder.

When it comes to specially composed music, like the BBC Music, then you need to get permission from the Copyright holder and it's got nothing to do with the MCPS.   They are only interested when it's one of their members work that is being infringed, such as Library Music.

I've had to clear music before with the MCPS so know how they work and know what they look for/what they allow.

I would just be careful, but then the only thing they could do is ask for it to be removed and you could shift it elsewhere

I would have thought something would have been mentioned by now, as there has been clean MP3s on sound central for months now, and I'm sure that if BBC News presenters etc look at this site and know about it, then others at the BBC would know about it aswell. Jamez can you say if someone at the BBC told you to do something about your MP3s? It's so unfair if they have!Sad

Thanks for clearing up what you meant by watermarking Jamez,
It's not that bad, at least we can still get (nearly) clean versions of the sounds, its better than nothing

Not fully clean - if you can live with the voiceover every 20 seconds then great! Smile
