I was thinking we were overdue another 'what's wrong with TVF' thread. (A 'scariest ident' thread must also surely be just around the corner).

Having just been having a wade through some of the threads on DS, it makes me realise how I actually do appreciate TVF. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's not that bad really.

On occasions, the bitching can get a little tedious - although I do think a low tolerance for morons and fantasists by the membership as a whole does benefit the standard of discussions. You only have to look at the 97-post thread on DS based on an unsubstantiated rumour that Gems TV might be coming to Freeview to realise this.

There's something similar on Metropol called TV Forum watch.

There's good reason for closing certain forums like a Requests forum, but the whole site is silly - I don't think I've ever joined a forum which has been closed to me as a guest.

Notice the Emma Jesson website forum been closed to non members now!

I'm getting fed up of this now!

If you want to attract traffic, put the forums on free to view, not expect people to register all the bloody time!!

I feel quite hurt by this.
I find metropol very homely. Its like putting on a comfy pair of slippers.

There's an issue with forums that some people seem to forget. That issue is that these things are owned by one or more people, HOWEVER, some people become over reliant on gaining importance and as such think they begin to have implied influence over what goes on, on the forums. I've done it elsewhere.

That's when things get difficult the member and forum-owner relationship starts to fracture and eventually breakdowns as a result. Regrettably this ends in measures that are unilaterally taken by the owner with cautions and subsequent bannings.

It's a big big shame but people need to realise that these things are collaborative but when push comes to shove there's only one winner.

for such a fan of courtesy you seem unable to grasp the common consensus on the other place that you are unwanted by all but two of the membership.
