As I mentioned over the road, it'll never take off unless they're forcibly ejected from here. They believe that rota tripe is the purpose of *this* forum and until it is shown otherwise then it'll continue.
Indeed - it's only going to happen when the environment becomes too hostile for it to continue, whether actively or passively. There's even less chance of success if the owner of the new forum dislikes rota chat. It would need promotion from someone who is at least mildly interested in rota chat for it to work.
Ultimately, it's down to how much Asa is willing for the original mission statement of the forum to be diluted for whatever reason - the bigger the forum gets, the more it's going to happen.
Still, I am an advocate of it being moved to its own subforum, and being completely banned from the other forums.
People who dislike traditional rota discussion, but want to talk about a particular presenter who is doing something noteworthy could start something away from the megathreads, meaning the discussion's flow doesn't get stymied by the regular flow of rota discussion. It also means, being in its own forum, that there's less argument over whether a particular piece of presenter/staff news is noteworthy enough for its own thread (seeing as there's more screen space to fill).
People who dislike any of that discussion at all can stay away much easier (there's less compulsion to get rid of the green ribbons), and people complaining in the threads over their existence have then clearly made the effort to go in there, and are just disrupting things.
Being in its own forum will also allow rules to be more prominent (sticky threads ahoy), and possible splitting into presenter threads, and rota threads (i.e. better delineation).
The only argument I can remember against this (this may be down to my memory more than there not being any) against this would be that it encourages the chat. For me, that's just another way of saying that it will require more moderation. The solution seems simple - acquire/assign a moderator, who is familiar with the rules of that forum, for that forum only.
Does this post make good sense to anyone but me?
