Anyone remember web.archive.org?

(August 2003)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

http://web.archive.org is still around. Try this link for a blast from the past! http://web.archive.org/web/20010907031816/www.tvforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard/forums.cgi?forum=1
That, my friends, is the earliest archived copy of TV Forum! Unfortunately, none of the links work, but one of the images does appear. Interesting to see how things have changed though...

I was looking on here a couple of days ago. I wish it would've saved all of the topics - it would've been good looking through them again. The forum was such a good place back then - hmmm, it seems my morale has reached an all time low just thinking about it.

I see spiringunhacked is present there - Rolling Eyes

Heh! No surprise there! I've also just found two versions of the TV Ark links page - with most of the images either intact or pointing to the current one. It's amazing what you find there. Yes, I know web.archive.org was talked about on here last year - that's how I discovered it! - but all the topics from then are gone, so I think it was worth reposting the link. I think I'll see if old versions of other sites can be found - such as the Xoom ones?

The forum homepage, largely unchanged apart from some re-positioning. Also... "joining 310 other members with a total of 579 posts" ooo thats a lot, compared to now " joining 1426 other members. "

It seems "Archive Forum" is not a new feature then?

I can remember all those months ago saying that a dedicated forum for general chatter would be unnecessary and divert our attention from the point of the forum itself. Now look where we are! The Lounge is the root cause of all the problems which exist today. Just call me amazing.

No, the root cause is a combination of some idiots, and over-active moderation. Most of the other sites I visit manage to have general chatter forums that don't cause problems.

I remember that BREAKING NEWS thread. "teleonline" (whatever happened to him?) said that the Queen Mum had died. The information was incorrect, and he apologised, and we accepted that it wasn't his fault. God, things were simple in them days!

I can also remember when TV Forum was just the TV Home forum. I think The Lounge was originally called General Chat. I'm not sure why it changed.

Was there a forum when the site was called "UK Television"? At that stage I still thought Asa was a woman!

You're not the only one! I thought Asa was female too, it's an unusual name. Since the Liquid News appearance though, we now even know his hair colour, so no chance of anyone making that mistake again! The old address was http://www.uk-television.co.uk (Crossover TV still has a link to that address!) - I tried it in the Internet Archive, but the earliest copy, from 2000, is the autoforward to www.tvhome.co.uk! Asa, there wasn't a forum back then was there?

The earliest I can remember of TV Forum is when there was a message saying the site had been hacked and it would return soon. It was either the forum or TV Home.

Bah! Just clicked Whataday's link, but got a Failed Connection message - seems the database gets too busy at times! I wish it was more reliable, as there's no similar services (to my knowledge) anywhere in the world!

Re: General Chat - I think the name change is because every other 2-bit forum uses names like General Chat or General Discussion! Asa wanted TV Forum to have it's own character, and look at it now! over 1000 members - and that was a year ago!
