I knew there'd be a good chance of this happening, but I'm absolutely livid.

People who rip videos that are already on YouTube and re-upload them are scum.

Funny you should say that. Because I see no difference between that and you using Coca-Cola's video in the first place or things like The New Adventures of Superman. Those in glass houses, Richie.

At least he didn't try and cut off your end cap!

Most people would take it as a compliment.

There is a difference - a huge one. Spending a week or two putting a remix together is very different to ripping a video and simply re-uploading it. What's the point in having dozens of duplicates of the same thing on the same website? It's ridiculous. My New Adventures of Superman upload is from my DVD and was justified by the fact that the quality of the existing uploads on YouTube wasn't very good.

I don't take it as a compliment either, as I have been deprived of about 2000 views in 24 hours!

That would kind of spoil it for everyone else though Sad

How do you know that those 2000 people not have come across yours anyway and some as a result may have typed in your YouTube URL.

The point is it's someone else's work, you don't own, so they have just as much right to upload that as you.

Do you really think they'd bother? Rolling Eyes

You're just disagreeing for the sake of it, as usual.

Whilst I wouldn't partake in that particular practice, it does ensure that people don't miss the better videos. It happens becuase people like yourself want big view counts.

Perhaps you should ask the guy to put a courtesy of www.youtube.com/richiesherman annotation at the beginning.

At the end of the day, if someone sees it (that wouldn't have done otherwise) due to that copy and tells 10 of their mates about it the great Coca-Cola lorries ad remix they've seen on YouTube, that's a good thing is it not, when they come to search for it?

No, I'm disagreeing because there is a certain amount of hypocrisy at play here.

And yes I can understand why you're annoyed, but to use words like 'scum' to describe someone who saw your work and just wanted to show it to even more people, is a bit OTT really. People might not think they're doing any harm or even releases it's your own piece of work.

No, you're missing the point. Both videos appear in the search results when you search for the same phrases. There's no benefit in duplication whatsoever.

I don't care what anyone says, ripping someone's video and uploading it on your channel is a scummy thing to do and goes against the spirit of the YouTube community.

Yes, but one video is only going to appear once is the point I was making. The more time it's duplicated the less likely the bored YouTube user is going to miss it.

I'm with Chie on this one. Out of interest Mr Wells, why exactly do you now go around making nasty comments after about 60% of Chie's posts? Especially give that you were so keen to defend him but four months ago...

I've started to do the same, I don't like doing it, and I know I'm not that good at it, but it does kind of stop the ripping of clips.

It's ok.

The guy has deleted the comment I posted on the video last night and has chosen to ignore my private message, in which I explained that it's not actually the real advert and he should delete it. Rolling Eyes At the rate it's going his number of views will overtake mine within the next few days. That can't be right, can it? Where is the incentive to make things like this if people are just going to nick them. It's infuriating.
