Seems a bit of a clique (September 2006)

Hi, I just wondered what other people thought about the Metropol247 website. Is it part of TV Forum and if not what is it for?

I've just spent 20 minutes looking through the topics and they seem very cliquey and bad-tempered. Gavin Scott seems to be running the show over there and my goodness what a petty and childish little man he seems!

Can TV Forum have its own general chat forum without having to use Metropol because it seems very unappealing to want to join.

Asa, Charlie Wells? Could we perhaps have a general forum over on TV Forum moderated by TV Forum??? Very Happy

We used to, but for various reasons Asa wanted to concentrate on TV Presentation and that's how Metropol got started. TV Forum itself went a through a cliquey period, then got taken over by trolls, Charlie Wells became a moderator and the rest is history as they say.

Metropol is the sister site of TV Forum, and is there because Asa preferred not to have a general chat area on this site.

I suspect you may be a little sore at me saying you are "presumptious" in a thread on TV Forum; but if you'd prefer not to join I am sure there are many other general chat sites who would welcome you.

It's exactly that snide tone which has stopped me from joining your website, Gavin. Your website has even got a unique UK domain name, and yet there seems to be only a handful of people using the site. Doesn't take a genius to work out why!

And no, I'm not a little sore about your comment. I can clearly see you're like it with everyone you talk to online, so there's certainly no sore point with me!

What relationship is there between usage levels and domain name registration?

I honestly fail to see what part of my reply could be considered "snide".

Sites with their own exclusive domain names generally attract a larger amount of visitors than sites with a subdomain. Business fact.

Erm, that's only a fact because generally sites with a unique domain tend to be independent of any other websites. Metropol isn't - it is TV Forum's sister website. Metropol only really provides a general chat forum, those are ten a penny on the internet, in order to attract visitors from elsewhere it would have to offer a little bit than one forum. Not to say members from elsewhere wouldnt be welcome.

Most of the members over there are TVFers. Come join us. We ( ok i) generally talk aload of random old bollox. Come and join us, you might like it. I started out over here and now spend most of my time in the Lounge. It was once part of TVF but Martin and Asa came to some kind of agreement between them hence mp24/7. It's way more relaxed. Pour yourself a beer and register.

Look forward to seeing you over there.

Oh he's a reincarnation of someone Lorna, but it's not Dusty.

That goes a long way towards explaining this thread.

I think Gavin is generally very fair-minded. Other moderators would do well to learn from his example.

I've teased him a bit on Metropol lately, but I don't think he's taken it very well.

Sorry Gavin.

I appreciate your words. For the record I'm not implying a connection between you and the topic starter - but you'd probably be interested to know who it is.

I'll tell you in the secret forum.
