I have to ask,

If information etc started popping up on new website form place which have long disappeared would the original owners have any say?

Most people wouldn't sue, but it's polite to ask. Text would be copyright, but I don't think most people would mind.

In the case of sites on Fortunecity or Geocities, these have been copied to other websites without the original owners' permission. I don't mind about mine, however.

What about stuff that come from IBA books etc? I know moving into pic etc is heading for no no, but really if there been lost over 8 years now would be really know?

Also my guestbook - remember those?

With a message I posted there almost 13 years ago still intact. Come to think of it, that's around the time I first discovered TV presentation websites.

A few other familiar names also on the guestbook all the way back to 1998...

I noticed that. It's years since I read through those - interesting to reminisce.

TV and Radio Bits is definitely one of the biggest gaps. There was apparently a reason but it's still a shame it had to be completely removed from the web.

It is a shame, but the reason for the closure was down to copyright reasons, and I decided I no longer wanted to be responsible for the display of copyrighted material on the web.

I used to love your site, the highlight were all those Radio Times covers you had and the listings including Christmas.

It's a shame but the web has moved on and YouTube has created such a simple way to upload material.. even if some channels are basically people holding a 2mp phone camera up to their bedroom TV!

All those old VHS tapes I have for example would have just been thrown away.

Needless to say, the pres sites still surviving are doing a fantastic job. It's almost become like the British high street in a way.

It's quite funny reading that. People just coming together basically saying 'Oh yes, I like those TV logos too' Laughing Now everyone's a TV producer!!

A new young upstart arrived on the block to cater for my old niche! (Just kidding StevieB)

Haha, thanks Colm!

The main reason I gave up on my site was really because of time! It started as a hobby when I was at university and then four years later I became a full time teacher so basically had no time to update it anymore.

As well as that, my web host deleted every single one of my video clips without telling me because they said I hadn't paid for a video streaming subscription. That was the final nail!

Rob very kindly offered to take most of my UTV stuff and host it on TV Live so thankfully it still lives on!

Probably the greatest loss for me was Jim Edwards' TV World.

It's amazing when you look at the list of links for TV World how many pres sites there were (and fortunately a handful on that list are still with us).

Now there's one with an even more outdated list than TV Archive's! The images are mostly broken, but Crossover Television (top of the list) had some interesting info, especially regarding the 1991 franchise round. A very rare find prior to the advent of Wikipedia!

The first sites I saw were Sean Hughes and Andrew Wiseman's. The latter is still going at http://625.uk.com and although it hasn't been updated much in years, it's still a great resource. There is some great commentary which does seem dated now, but is a great insight to the tv of the late 90s and early 2000s.
