TV Whirl seems to be dead unfortunately - still online though and the admin 'tesandco' pops up, he appears to be something to do with TV Live now.

That's correct, Terence hosts the main TV Live site.

In defence of those who ran presentation websites which ended up closing down, my old one became virtually impossible to update as:

Arrow I moved away from the region it focused on
Arrow Without internet access where I then lived, I had no viable means at the time of keeping the website up-to-date
Arrow In those pre-YouTube days of Tripod/Lycos web hosting, I couldn't provide a suitable way of hosting videos, which was quickly become a standard among such websites
Arrow A new young upstart arrived on the block to cater for my old niche! (Just kidding StevieB)

Mind you, I still have all the pages and images archived on DVD - and floppy disks too! - but with the progress of time, there's barely a chance of The Other UTV Website ever coming back.

Like 623058, as an almost-qualified librarian I do find it rather sad that so much information and video content has been lost over the years. But that's the nature of the web unfortunately in that it's constantly changing. I do think YouTube has been good for pres hobbyists in one sense as it has allowed a much greater number of people to upload their own recordings. But where it falls down is the lack of information and care - the quality of some of the dedicated pres sites is unrivalled.

Probably the greatest loss for me was Jim Edwards' TV World. I know the quality of the Real Media clips was truly dreadful, but we were all used to that at the time. TV World had a wide selection of videos, some of which (e.g. ITN and especially early BBC WSTV footage) have been lost forever it seems. I wish there was some way for the material to be made available again - I'd even accept the postage stamp-sized videos again just to see some of the rare footage. But I don't think it will ever happen, sadly.

By the way, does anyone else remember "Round The Regions"? That was another site - along with TV Home, TV-Ark and The TV Room - I used to visit in my early days as a pres fan. It's hard to believe it's been 13 years since I first looked up TV pres as a hobby online.

Just thought I'd plug my old site...

... what's left of it.

Also my guestbook - remember those?

I still wonder why people just don't donate or ask to pass on some of the content other place to make sure such wonder clips and details are not lost. Of course some website done need updating if there looking back over years.

Sometimes you get the feeling some of sites are just to make the creator look good and hog the information.

Blimey, that's a blast from the past. I remember reading your 'digital' page when we were thinking of getting Sky Digital back in 2000! Thanks for sharing the link again!

The name Damien rings a bell, Richard, so possibly yes.

I have to ask,

If information etc started popping up on new website form place which have long disappeared would the original owners have any say?

No problem - I put it online again a few years ago (I never really took it down, just hid it). It is hopelessly out of date, and everything it used to do is done better elsewhere.

Fortunecity closed last year, but fortunecity.ws archived it.

All the videos were deleted by fortunecity quite a few years ago now, but most of them are on my YouTube page in one file - shown on the first page.

If I read back some of what I wrote then it seems hopelessly amateurish, but it does bring back good memories.
