That FAQ was written years ago - not quite sure why I wrote "zap bandwidth" unless the old software only allowed locally held avatars.

There's still definitely no plans to ever introduce them - I don't think they add anything to a post and just clutter up the place to be honest.

I think allowing images in signatures is a much better alternative - allows you to be more creative.

And that problem could be solved by not allowing animated avatars.
