And the Telegraph article
Quote:
It will be the first app to be released from a major UK broadcaster allowing TV catch-up on the most popular mobile devices, beating both the BBC and Channel 4. The BBC iPlayer and Channel 4’s 4onDemand service are both available via mobile browsers – but have yet to launch dedicated TV catch-up apps. The BBC Trust is currently reviewing whether the corporation should be permitted to launch dedicated news and sports mobile apps, following representations it had received from the media industry, claiming the apps would ‘distort’ the market.
The ITV Player app, which the TV company is hoping will be live in each smartphone’s respective app store by the beginning of September, will not be free, according to a senior TV executive close to ITV.
ITV is trying to get its content onto every platform and having ITV Player, its 30-day catch up service, available on the key smartphone devices, is an incredibly important part of the broadcaster’s digital strategy.
“There will be a one-off payment for the app, and the app will be populated on a daily basis with new content which will be continually supported by advertising,” they said.
An ITV spokesman said: “Viewers are consuming content on a range of platforms to suit their lifestyles so we want to make our content available when and where consumers want to watch it. We are considering options for this as part of our ongoing strategic review.”
Apple, Google and Blackberry were unavailable to comment.
Additionally ITV is also understood to be in discussions with Sony about launching ITV Player on the PS3 games console, according to the same source. The service would be streamed and advertising supported. It is hoping to launch on this platform also by the beginning of September. Nintendo’s Wii platform will not allow advertising and Microsoft’s Xbox does not allow free content as it charges for all web content via its Xbox Live platform.
Tomorrow, June 11, ITV will launch its first free live TV web apps for the iPhone, ahead of the World Cup, which will allow users to watch ITV 1 and 2 in real-time via their Apple devices. The broadcaster will also live stream the World Cup matches it holds the rights for via the web apps, which are awaiting Apple approval to enter the App Store.

normally ITV are critised for the ITV Player etc but lately they seem to be improving a lot.
I can see the ITV.com website having a complete overhall as ther new CEO has said that the current website is not up too much.
^ The World Cup App is now available on the iPhone/iPod Touch.
It's not bad at all actually. Nicely presented and the way it presents its videos is like nothing I've seen from an app before (though you can't pause the video).

Sorry, we're working to fix some glitches on ITV.com right now
The site will be back soon. But for now, have a look at what we're up to on Facebook

The menu bar seems to have been fixed now- earlier it was big but the text wasn't. They now seemd to have finished changing it and now it's all bigger! Looks quite nice IMO.
I wonder if it's just for the world cup or longer - as when you click through to other sites from the homepage there've still got the old menu bar!
And also link doesn't work!
