ITV, to Levy Micropayments for On-Demand Content across Platforms

UK commercial terrestrial broadcaster, ITV (note: the name originally stood for "Independent Television Network"), is planning to introduce so-called "micropayments" for its on-demand programming across a range of platforms (including Project Canvas, its joint venture with the BBC and incumbent telco, BT) this fall, according to a report in the UK broadcasting-industry trade publication, Broadcast.

They were all-ways behind iPlayer 4od and Demand Five with there silverlight player and stupid UI.
No better than sky now with their on demand service then.
Really they are getting desperate for money, Perhaps they should ask to get a bit of the taxpayer's money into their pockets along with advertising revenue?

Except Sky are subscription anyway, so it makes sense for them to charge. ITV are FTA, so it should definately be free. They are not subscription, yet .

I wouldn't be willing to spend any more than 0 pence for that picture quality. At least they're keeping the 7 day stuff free (even though it is 30 days at the moment!).

itn will no longer produce news for itv.com

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/jun/29/itv-website-cancel-itn-news

also when 'The process is expected to take a couple of months, after which ITV.com's own news offering will return with regional, national and international sections -

1 - surely someone will have to provide this
2 - this should see the launch of itv.com/local

ITV.com is still an epic fail, with an average-at-best design, woeful inconsistencies from site to site and a terrible player.

I think they should literally obliterate the whole site and everything on it, all the content, all the designs, literally the lot, and relaunch from scratch with clean, modern code.

They need to hire new engineers and a project manager who knows what he/she is doing. I'd recommend the guy who pioneered BBC iPlayer - obviously a master, who has really done probably the best job possible with the service making it cross-platform compatible and very high quality, whilst being easy to use. That, or the guy who implemented the BBC redesign which filtered through to the rest of the sites.

I'd say the new site should feature a small amount of features in the core, then individual programme sites with their own unique designs. It won't happen, but it would be good.

Agree with everything said above, it does seem as though this current incarnation was to take away any form of uniqueness & creativity to then turn around & say that that's what they want to remove leaving them with a hybrid of new ideas mixed with old ideas, and a clunky player that was designed to be within every page taking up too much space, and which since being removed has just been replaced by an advert in that space.

They do need to go back to square one with the main design of the site.
It is a shape that the website never followed the lovely black sleek look that was previewed a while before it relaunched (http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/101191/itv-gets-serious-about-online-content.html# - click on the image to make larger).

There do seem to be more & more sites using their own look which is good, but again even on the new Corrie site they are inserting this square advert where the former player would have been located that takes up too much room, especially when the advert is also on the page twice before at the top & along the right hand side.

There are a few sites that do look alright. The new ITV Player isn't that bad in terms of design, the same goes for the ITV2 site which takes a leaf out of the BBC Home Page with the movable articles, except ITV2's are for twitter, LastFM, etc.

Another thing that I think looks odd especially on widescreen monitors is how the website still sits tight to the left hand side of the screen. Making it in my opinion feel out of date.

I don't know when this happened, but it looks like ITN content has now gone from www.itv.com/news

The site says;

New look This Morning site - http://www.itv.com/lifestyle/thismorning

Surprisingly, it actually looks quite nice.

If www.itv.com/news is relaunching this month they only have a few days left to do so.
