Shame that we still have to wait, but that article sounds promising.

They mentioned it briefly on the itv lunchtime news and said there would be a part called itv news uploaded. We also got about 20 seconds of what it will look like.

I was rather intrigued about this:

Blockbusters, Catchphrase and Family Fortunes are among the classic ITV gameshows that viewers will be able to play on the broadcaster's new website.

ITV.com will have a games section that combines original archive footage with new video clips to allow users to play some of the cult classic shows.

Players will have to register on the site. Each contestant will be able to play each game three times for free. Users will then have to pay to take part in the competitions. Taking part in a single game will cost between 20 and 35p.

The games have been designed in partnership with broadband content specialist JailDog and will look similar to the original programmes that they are based on.

Annelies Van Den Belt, managing director of broadband at ITV, added: "We've taken some of the country's most iconic gameshows and moved them to the next level."

Channel 4 hit Countdown will also feature on the site. The show is made by ITV Productions.

Will they be having a deal going with WedigTV or are they just completely ripping it off?

A quote from that page:

Soon, you will be able to watch your favourite programmes live on TV – all for free.

The new itv.com will be the most comprehensive commercial broadcaster website,
with live streaming of our channels plus an exclusive 30-day Catch Up service.

Could be good, as long as they don't infect the video content with Digital Restrictions Management, and they allow it to
be viewed by everyone from the start, not just those with PC's running WMP10+ on Windows XP, unlike BBC iPlayer.

which would destroy the concept of a 30 day limit wouldn't it greg.

I'm against DRM on things such as iTunes but I can understand why they want to use it for systems such as this. Also remember that there is a Mac version of iPlayer being developed and no doubt a linux one will appear in time.

I'm pretty sure WedigTV is part of ITV. In fact, each game begins with a "Granada Ventures" slide. Perhaps the 20-35p a game thing will run a long side the free version as it is done now on Wedig.

ITV says the new itv.com uses advanced 'click and watch' technology, meaning anyone with a reasonably modern PC will be able to view it, while Apple Mac users will eventually also be catered for.

Not necessarily. They can remove the content from the site when it's been online for 30 days, much like last years
trial of selected BBC Two catchups streamed from the BBC Two website. There was no DRM involved. The only
restriction was the blocking of non-UK IP's, to ensure no-one outside the UK could view the streams.

And yes, a user could well change their IP address to bypass geographical restrictions, but doing so is very fiddly,
and technical, doesn't always work, and is not really something the average user is going to know how to do.

Since they're planning on streaming all of ITV's output, the only area where they'd need to put any sort of DRM in
place, is for any content made by major 3rd party producers, usually the likes of major Hollywood studios, and
the recording industry. In which case, instead of using DRM, any such content would not be streamed at all,
and replaced either by a suitable "not available" apology caption, or alternative content to fill the gaps.

Homegrown content made by ITV itself, such as good ol' Corrie, absolutely does not need to be DRM'd at all.

Having looked at the ITV page where that promotional clip is linked from, there is a link to download Flip4Mac,
which enables most Windows Media content to be viewed in QT Player on Mac OS X. This does not support
the DRM technology used in protected Windows Media content. So, ITV's broadband streaming could well
be cross-platform compatible, supporting both Windows and Mac, without any DRM infection.
