Would be awesome if even Daybreak/This Morning followed suit

I think they already have...

There is a new design for websites emerging across a number of show sites that clearly use the same backend, but are highly customisable seemingly. Take a look:

http://www.itv.com/emmerdale/
http://www.itv.com/celebrityjuice/
http://www.itv.com/redorblack/
http://www.itv.com/essex/
http://www.itv.com/downtonabbey/
http://www.itv.com/imacelebrity/
http://www.itv.com/takemeout/
http://www.itv.com/thecube/

All using this new template. Notice identical navigation bars, etc.

However, some sites like TOWIE's use a live stream a la ITV News and ITV Sport, while others don't.

Some sites, like Emmerdale's are fairly complex while others, like Downton's, are very simple.

The main thing is this appears to be a new thing, unique looking sites using the same underlying code/adhering to a design language. I hope to see more and more sites converted to this style, any old or dated pages to be deleted and hopefully a new homepage to show it all off.

ITV.com is looking really good lately, when it all comes together the new ITV News, Sport and Player sites are really good. Now that it appears programme pages are migrating to a very capable system, I'm optimistic ITV.com will soon have finally turned a massive corner!

I have to say that the current site template as you say is really good, the best in recent years and in some ways is better than BBC's generic page template.

I like the much lighter menu navigation bar and the customisation that comes with it, sites like This Morning which follow the more clunkier site design aren't as visually appealing in my eyes.

I wonder what it comes down to when allowing one site to have one design and one the other, for example the recently relaunched Daybreak and Lorraine sites carry the more clunkier design style similar to This Morning.

Also interesting that the new ITV Player has a sub category of "news and weather" when searching for a program, I wonder if this means that ITV News bulletins will be once again appearing online.

I agree about the new template being good. Having studied its implementations across various programme sites (and there are remarkably many!) I think it's very easy to customise modules, with carousels, continuous news streams, widgets, variable header height all present.

They all have a very good polish with high resolution page backgrounds that fade into a block colour as well as a completely consistent masthead experience.

ITV need to migrate every site to this system and yes, that does include Daybreak, Lorraine, This Morning and Coronation Street. These sites are using older systems and are out of place. Adopting a consistent design scheme through the whole site that is customisable enough to look bespoke for the programme will be an amazing move.

And with it, and a few more tweaks like a new Contact page, HD streams on ITV Player, the masthead on Sport/News/new Player being unified to match the rest of the site, plus visual polish with the 2013 network rebrand forcing colour changes, ITV.com could well have finally achieved the status of being a worthy competitor to much of the BBC's online offering.

Two final things: the web team need to sort out page titles, which are inconsistently named across this new system; and ditching Flash video will make programme sites functional on iPad and iPhone. Further ahead if the system could scale down to mobile size whilst retaining functionality/visual distinction that would just be incredible. Totally wishful thinking though!

Totally agree on all of those points, but I think that the Coronation Street has been unique in recent years with it's own template and design style. That said if some of the features were taken from the ITV style to the Coronation Street site it could make some improvements!

And the unified header across ITV News sites has today been updated Wink ITV ahead of the TV Forum? Surely not!

Wow!!

Glad to see it implemented, but hope it's tweaked because it doesn't look finished for some reason. I think the space underneath I needs to go.

It should be the same style as the one on the new programme pages.

Also, don't think the "News" item on the main masthead should disappear when you're on the News site, it just looks inconsistent. Same goes for Sport.

Agreed that it should lay a little clsoer to the top menu!

And yes I can never understand that? It doesn't disappear when you go on things like ITV Player and TV Guide, a menu should be the same throughout so hopefully at some point this will change.

I also hope things such as the meet the team link can be changed for each region and potential allow the menu to have links to regional facebook and twitter pages should they want them.

The itv.com menu bar is now also on the News section with a separate menu below for the news links inline with Daybreak etc.

Currently, instead of 4 headline boxes at the top, Tyne Tees have one which features the image related to a story as the background of the whole page - looks good.

I think the new ITV News header is more, umm lets say more ITV, the old header was great but did take up a lot of space on the site..

That's odd. And so is this. The regions list has Calendar listed for the Yorkshire region, but the others are the name of the region and not the news programme. Either Calendar should be listed as Yorkshire, or Border, for instance, should say Lookaround. It's inconsistent.
