I agree about the new template being good. Having studied its implementations across various programme sites (and there are remarkably many!) I think it's very easy to customise modules, with carousels, continuous news streams, widgets, variable header height all present.
They all have a very good polish with high resolution page backgrounds that fade into a block colour as well as a completely consistent masthead experience.
ITV need to migrate every site to this system and yes, that does include Daybreak, Lorraine, This Morning and Coronation Street. These sites are using older systems and are out of place. Adopting a consistent design scheme through the whole site that is customisable enough to look bespoke for the programme will be an amazing move.
And with it, and a few more tweaks like a new Contact page, HD streams on ITV Player, the masthead on Sport/News/new Player being unified to match the rest of the site, plus visual polish with the 2013 network rebrand forcing colour changes, ITV.com could well have finally achieved the status of being a worthy competitor to much of the BBC's online offering.
Two final things: the web team need to sort out page titles, which are inconsistently named across this new system; and ditching Flash video will make programme sites functional on iPad and iPhone. Further ahead if the system could scale down to mobile size whilst retaining functionality/visual distinction that would just be incredible. Totally wishful thinking though!
