ITV Anglia putting there bulletins online, I imagine the rest of the regions will follow.

Tyne Tees uploaded the lunchtime bulletin on Monday! all, especially national, bulletins should be put in ITV Player!

Possibly, no one has set an official programme upload template for regions to use, Anglia has split the programme in 3 using Vimeo.

But this way does seem to benefit from being uploaded quicker.

Well apparently they wont upload it as they have found that people prefer having individual stories, there is a page template in place if you type in the itv.com/thelocalregion/fullprogramme .

I totally agree that the bulletins should be put on ITV Player.

I'm surprised they have moved www.itv.com/weather to be incorporated with the News site now, as regional weather is available on the News site but not national weather as far as I can see.

Unrelated, but since when did local weather (like above) have a different look from the national weather?

Morning weather takes the Daybreak graphics to provide a cohesive look for regional updates in the program.

We (as in TV Forum) get a namecheck - and link - by Made by Many in their latest blog on the ITV News site. Very Happy

Early prototype:

Interesting bits below, click link for full story

Quote:
[...]

When we started working with ITV, we knew we had to do something different. We wanted to explore realtime news and use it to show how news stories develop over time, i.e. that news is an ongoing process not a finished product.

[...]

Some people said they had spent a couple of hours checking the site, even though we hadn't asked them to spend a particular amount of time on there.

[...]

ITV has 300 journalists around the country many of whom were not used to producing content for the web. One of the challenges of the project was helping them to make the transition from a broadcast organisation, geared towards peaking at certain points in the day, to putting the web first.

[...]

As part of the prototyping process, we created an email-in tool so journalists could send in pictures and text to the team in the newsroom. These would appear with a notification in the admin section of the site. It was a very simple prototype of what an app might do in future to get journalists accustomed to sending in content and make it very easy to use it immediately on the web.

[...]

We've released a minimum viable product so that we can learn from real use in the wild

Testing and prototyping behind the scenes can only take you so far. We used it help us understand the core appeal of the proposition and what features we needed to develop first to deliver an innovative, coherent product.

[...]

The stream works for local news too - it was the thing most users asked for early on and we even tried mixing local news into the national stream (an idea we want to develop further in future)

[...]

Another early idea was to use a sliding bar timeline to navigate the stream, which tested very well with users but it, too, ended up being set aside as it didn't provide enough value on top of the stream to merit making it into the first release; it would have got in the way of building more important features.
[...]

What's going to be more interesting in the weeks to come will be monitoring actual use. Will the findings we found in testing be backed up in the metrics?

Our testing told us that people found it addictive, that they would come back repeatedly during the day and that it made them more likely to watch the ITV news bulletins on TV.

We'll be watching closely to see how long people spend on the site, how much content is shared and whether audiences grow, both online, on mobile and on TV.

So the cause of Whitney Houstons death is announced on News at Ten, I go online to find more on the site. Wouldn't of happened with the old site. I'm really finding it useful for things like this.

They should adopt those graphics on the other weather reports as well - the current set has been in use since before the current ITV logo was introduced. Well overdue for replacement.

Well I've visited the site quite a few times this week, which is good considering I rarely if ever visited the old site. I am impressed with it. You can tell a lot of thought has gone into it and importantly it's doing something a bit different to its rivals, and catering for an audience who perhaps want to consume news in a quicker, more digestible form.

Agreed. The Daybreak weather graphics look much nicer.

The ITV News site is still going strong - it's clear this represents a massive culture change at ITV, there are more people pushing content to the site than before.

Optimistic for the next steps at ITV with their web offering. They are on the brink of something fantastic, but just need a little bit more thought like the News site.

Next up, new homepage and ITV Player sites, as slick as what we've seen with News!

Meridian have now put its program online for a second evening, last nights Titanic special and tonight's bulletin are for the South, the South East is yet to be published. I really hope all other ITV regions follow suit.
