I think you're maybe oversimplifying it a bit. I've had a play around with it and I think it's really good - there's much more to it than Twitter updates. The way it is organised is brilliant - everything is there on the homepage, and the way of presenting individual stories works really well in that you have multiple articles, Tweets, pictures and videos grouped together to give a really well rounded look at both the latest developments and the background too.

A nice surprise that they've made such a good job of this.

I do quite like the idea of the story aggregations - and on a better site it could be a powerful way of bringing things together (and more pervasively) than the likes of the BBC's 'Live' pages.

The content still isn't great though, but this has improved throughout the day. A few examples of articles earlier consisted of two or three huge stock photos, and half a dozen sentences of copy. Some have been more fleshed out since, but the emphasis is clearly on pushing video reports. Maybe the brevity works - I can see better how the format could appeal to some...

Just started using the new site, liking it, but going to look more into it soon to see if I end up loving it or not.

Noticed they didn't update the weather page, or put any clear links to it. And there doesn't seem to be much regional weather stuff. Hoping this get updated soon. There should be a Weather link at the top of each page like the Topic and Region links.

Also would have been nice if the regional sites were a little more unique like previous, but I can live without it.

Overall, I think the site has improved significantly content wise, they seem to at least be making an effort before it was like they put something on 'when they had a minute'. The regional sites have seem even more of an improvement a few stories published on Tyne Tees today. I'm a bit disappionted that full programme catch up has been scraped it would be nice to keep that or intergrate it into ITV Player- did I read somewhere that this was happening?!

ITV’s head of digital media for news and sports Julian March said the move marks the first time it has been able to “break out” of its terrestrial TV slots. “We have never had a rolling news channel on TV and so this is our first 24-hour rolling news service,” he said.

Made by Many sound like a great agency. Really nice to read they aren't just moving on but actively working with ITV to develop it based on feedback. Great to hear.

I'd like to see them do the new ITV Player site as well.

Julian March says traffic has been "extremely encouraging":

March wouldn’t provide specific numbers but he says traffic to the site on its first day has been “extremely encouraging,” and that the overall site roll-out was remarkably smooth.

The amount of content being pushed through the new ITV News site is actually surprisingly high, I have to say I was not expecting it to be like this.

The design is simple, yes, but the amount of content and the quality of said content is very good. There are loads of full articles, tons of blogs from correspondents and plenty of high quality images and videos playable on all devices including iOS devices without Flash.

Getting more impressed by the day - it's actually a fantastic alternative to BBC News for me now. It's the same news, but displayed in a way that's arguably better, even despite being arguably less comprehensive. Lots of hype on Twitter.

Could be a game changer. Can't wait to see it develop, and really hope it takes off for ITV.

They defiantly need better integration of weather services, it is so hard to find a forecast. I also miss the full programme feature.

Also this video has more on the new site with interviews from the news team.

Gonna follow the Budget on ITV and BBC sites today and see how they compare.

Today should be the site's first test with a big, detailed story which requires analysis and deconstruction. It seems it will be hard to beat the BBC's brilliant diagrams/tables.

Thank you for visiting ITV West online. We no longer carry the 6pm progamme on our website as we found people wanted more specific coverage of individual stories.

So no more catch up at all then..
