The approach seems to be an acknowledgement that they have no intention of offering a robust text news service, by masking their lack of content. Can't really blame them for taking this timeline approach, but I have absolutely no idea why anyone would go there to view a sort-of curated Twitter feed.
I think you're maybe oversimplifying it a bit. I've had a play around with it and I think it's really good - there's much more to it than Twitter updates. The way it is organised is brilliant - everything is there on the homepage, and the way of presenting individual stories works really well in that you have multiple articles, Tweets, pictures and videos grouped together to give a really well rounded look at both the latest developments and the background too.
A nice surprise that they've made such a good job of this.
Actually surprisingly impressed by this. It's pretty innovative, and I think it's good that they haven't gone down the route of virtually every other news site. The "liveness" to it is really quite cool, and being able to filter by story is a neat touch too.
Been using it on and off all day and the more I use it, the more I love it!
Noticing lots of very nice touches and details. Attention has been paid to the design, spacing, fonts etc. All they need to do is tighten a few tiny things and this has the potential to be amazing.
Got lots of praise on Twitter too. ITV News was trending in the UK earlier.
The site is definitely a grower, i wasnt that impressed when i saw it first time round but can see the appeal now. Given their comparatively limited resources it's actually a smart way to compete.
No quick route to an "about us" section. Links to Facebook page/twitter etc.
Disregarding the (independent from ITV) ITN site from back in the day, it's the best site they've ever had.
I like the new ITV News website now. It looks excellent and a big plus is to see the video reports on the vimeo player as it happens. It was not able to do that on the old site at all.
Would there be an opportunity to broadcast full News Bulletins on the ITV Player outside of the UK?
After much excitement I was elated with the news that the site had launched today. On the whole I really do like the whole concept of the live stream, it is really good that ITV News are making things instantly accessible, it is also great to see that text and video stories are being posted.
The design is good, apart from the green and also the loss of connecting between ITV News presenters. The old sites of course used to have the main presenters at the top of the page, this for regional sites gave them a familiar faces to navigate to, now though the new sites have lost some unique character.
Despite this it is simple but easy to navigate for the latest stories. The only thing I would say is that for a new user it is not that clear what's what, without watching the Mark Austin intro video I really had no idea. After a play around I kind of get the whole concept and how it works, I like that you can categorise the news stories through tags.
My other one issue is with the weather and full programme, on some sites the weather it not necessarily clear you do have to scroll down to see it whereas before it was at the top of the site. I am also saddened to see that catch up has been scrapped, I really used to like catching up on whole programmes particularly specific moments which have made me laugh or smile and I want to watch them again.
So a massive improvement, better than before by miles but still some little creases that they could iron out.
