Yeah I get it after that, but I thought it ran ITV player but private videos?

It runs on ITV's video player, but why there is a problem with daybreak videos is beyond me.

They ought to update it VERY quickly out of shame for the abomination that they call their current site.

Agreed, from what I gather one of the main focuses will be having a live rolling 24hr news stream of tweets from presenters and correspondent from the national and local news team. And as said in articles before there will be many news articles published, a third more or something like that.

A tweet I've seen also said that the site aims to be simpler than sites like the BBC's and the Huffington post and many ITV journos have tested the site said it is very good.

So fingers cross, a positive change. And they have worked with madebymany.com to produce the site, so a good design potentially on the cards.

Don't think it'll be anywhere near as good as the BBC's

Well not for content at least, but if its an improved step to now then it is much welcomed. And of course there is a revamped weather and sport site to launch too.

The problem is, they can make the site look as nice as they want, but content is going to be king with a news website. And ITV just don't appear to have the resources to do a news website justice - especially when you have Sky & the BBC.

I think it would be better actually if C4, C5 & ITV got behind an improved ITN website, they could pool content, and also have their own areas of the website.

Not sure if this is already going to happen, but if they had the regional stories on there too, it could be kept updated very well if regional and national teams updated the site.

It's probably a push to expect that, as nice at it'd be. I'll be happy with a National News site I'd actually consider visiting for alternative coverage - and if it's 99% videos like the current I certainly bloody won't.

In other ITV.com news, how long is it going to be before we see ITV Player updated? It's still not good enough, and the number 1 priority now should be the delivery of higher quality streams; BBC iPlayer has had HD playback for what seems like years now, and ITV neglecting to seemingly even consider this is ludicrous.

I hope after the News site launches (if it ever does...) the next priority is ITV Player. HD playback and improved discovery would be welcomed, and they could even add social network integration (login with Facebook and/or Twitter?) to allow for customisation (selecting favourite shows etc) and the whole "John Doe is watching Coronation Street on ITV Player" in the ticker lark. Similar to Spotify's approach. Would be really good.

I think expecting too much at once from ITV is a little bit idealistic but I see no reason why ITV Player cannot be updated (drastically) by the middle of the year. It surely won't be long before iPlayer gets an upgrade and the gulf in quality between the pair of them grows ever wider.

The sites next main priority is most likely to be micro-payments, they are already behind a
planned schedule and I read somewhere that the ITV Player needs to be brought up to scratch to roll out the whole micro-payment system.
