The thing that strikes me about the ITV website is how it seems to be stuck several years behind the other main broadcasters' sites, in that they haven't managed to come up with some kind of programme database. The BBC's is by far the best and most comprehensive, producing a permanent page for every episode of every programme broadcast across the corporation, but Channel 4 and even Channel 5 have also managed to come up with their own versions, driven largely by the need for some supporting infrastructure for their on demand services, resulting in standardised websites for all or most of their programmes.

ITV's website, however, seem to be stuck where the BBC website was about five years ago, where they are still building individual, standalone sites for their main shows (what the BBC internet blogs often describe as 'silos'), the result of which means there feels a complete lack of coherence across the ITV website. It seems strange that it hasn't appear to have occured to ITV that creating a programme database of their own might be a good idea, with which they can then build their programme websites around, and would ultimately save them money in the long run by not having to make a bespoke website for each of their shows.

Probably just behind the scenes stuff to get ready for the launch of the 24hr news service.

The new site is down for work yet again, while the national and regional weather sites have no data.

So after a planned December launch it is March next year when the brand new ITV News website will launch.

And a tweet by an ITV News trainee who attended an ITV digital conference tweeted "ITV news site will be simpler than HuffPost, BBC and Guardian. Not about pushing readers everywhere, says @wdowen" http://twitter.com/#!/benschofield

Interesting to see that I'm a Celebrity is using an ITV design without getting another web design company to create the site, also the method to archive back to previous years websites has been removed. The dancing on ice website has also had it's design taken away and replaced with a much more simple one until new episodes begin.

ITV plans to more than triple the amount on news content it publishes online as part of a radical digital overhaul.

The broadcaster is preparing to relaunch its news, sport and weather offering on itv.com in spring 2012 in a bid to attract more users and boost commercial opportunities.

Under the plans, it has emerged that ITV will significantly increase the number of news stories it publishes online from 40 to 150 a day.

The move - detailed in a report on the changing face of news commissioned by ITV - will also see the broadcaster’s correspondents write more blogs and increase their use of social media.

The report added that the website is likely to pool resources from national and regional newsrooms and be supported by promotion during on air bulletins. Mobile and tablet versions of itv.com/news will also be offered.

Written by the founder of consulting group Communications Chambers Robin Foster, the document said strong digital content will be essential to securing the future of broadcast news and help ITV reverse a trend that has seen it “lag” behind rivals.

TV news providers are better positioned than newspapers to exploit digital news opportunities, it said, because they have “easy access” to audio-visual media. They also have the capacity to provide live video streams.

Another factor listed as important to the future of TV news was Ofcom offering ITV incentives to continue its commitment to news as part of the Channel 3 licence renewal. This will help maintain “plurality of supply”, the report said.

“The scope for encouraging ITV to build on its commitment to high quality news should be a key factor. Options for an updated form of regional news provision to be retained as part of the ITV news mix could also be explored,” it added.

Actually cannot wait and fingers crossed things will improve when this new site is deployed.

One point though is the statement that the new site produce 40 articles a day, is this including regional news?

And also it seems the video Player has had a slight tweak.

Interesting that ITV Central are uploading videos to youtube, it must be a person working for the company. Interesting that ITV News also began uploading videos to youtube when using it's live stream.

What with the new news site coming I wonder if youtube will be the host of the news content.

Hi this is my first post!

I'd just like to say its about time ITV improved its online content, as that article says they will be offering mobile services which is great news! Both Sky and the BBC offer android and apple apps and mobile web pages, however ITV have always lacked there.

For a start it's current news website is confusing, it's not easy to navigate, whereas Sky and BBC seem to do this so well.
