Even with the pages that have been updated with the new menu and footer there are inconsistencies. From what I see it is only the homepage and ITV 1 page that have lost the advert at the top of the page while the TV Shows page and ITV 3/4 continue to have the advert at the top of the page.
Problem with that design is that I'd bet it would look very outdated now; for example from that screen shot a lot of screen space is being wasted squashing everything together, as well as the dreary dark background, and the video player is only 4:3.

I personally liked that design and I think it's a shame in never got put into use. I do think that the ITV website should have just been called ITV and not ITV.COM for the past few years and not just now, as that branding seemed dated.

You realise that it's reduced in size, yes?
And it could easily be tweaked to adjust the video ratio, and indeed to add more whitespace to the whole page (which it probably needs).
However, the black background is still nice, in my opinion.
Too much blank space at the top, and the ITV1 logo has been badly edited.
Edit:
Also clicking the Millionaire logo in "Contact", leads to a "Page Not Found".
Edit 2:
The "News" dropdown menu appears almost straight away on that page, with a delay on the home page.
Edit 3:
Also no searchbar

Sloppy. Why are they being inconsistent with the top advert? Why haven't they updated the masthead on all sites? Sites like Corrie, This Morning, Daybreak are ready for it...?

I do, thanks very much, I'm not stupid. My point stands, the size would only fit about a quarter of the page and looks outdated, would not incorporate HTML5 either.
It could be tweaked but why were they planning a 4:3 video back in 2007 when widescreen on TV was already commonplace especially on ITV?
The plain black just looks dreary, and most people prefer white on black than black on white, which is why the new ITV site uses shades of grey and the white-background area at the bottom.
It's an absolute rip-off of the Channel 5 website, but that's not a bad thing because the Channel 5 website is actually quite good.
ITV is never going to have as big a website as the BBC, and nor does it need one. I imagine most people go to itv.com to watch programmes, and the new site makes those easier to find.

But that begs the question of why they don't just integrate ITV Player fully into the site, a la Channel 4? Without it, there's very little actually to the main ITV.com.
To think the regional blogs have the menu that was here 2 menus ago (if that makes sense). To think if they havent updated those pages then how long will it take to update the rest of the site.
On a side note the Britains Best Dish site has been updated, looks okay I guess and following a consistency with the ITV 1 page.
