...The ITV website will be relaunched with a new design, better user navigation and an improved content management system. The ITV News website, which is currently managed by news provider ITN, will also receive an overhaul...

Thought there might be soon - about time too!

Whilst some sites are good, there's too many "mish mash" sites that are a bit poor. And whilst the ITV Player is less 'buggy' than it used to be, it still needs fixing.

What are people expecting then?

A new homepage and new ITV Player, ITV News but keep sites like Corrie etc intact?

Or a total rebuild from scratch?

Out of curiosity, is this a long-running bug or deliberate? I've never understood it.

I think it must be a bug ( it always works though!) as you obvioulsy have to subscribe normally to access it.

The only thing I thought was - surely someone working at Broadcast would have noticed? I'd even go as far to say that surely someone working at Broadcast views TV Forum or even DS ( it's always being posted over their, in The Rating's Thread at least). Seems strange to me! Laughing

I think me ( and the majority of people I should think) imagine it's getting a total rebuild. That's the main problem, some of the site designs are pretty good, it's just all the behind the scenes stuff that doesn't seem to work well i.e the patchy to say the least, ITV Player.

Poor navigation etc was what the ITV bosses said was one of the main problem. So the menu bar will be getting an update I should imagine.

Good there've specifically picked out the ITV News wesbite, currently it just has too little news on, even the old pre 2009 News site used to have a side menu with all the different options -UK, World News , Sport etc. even if it was only text based. But even since ITV ditched ITN ON (IIRC) for the ITN News department to provide news for the site, cost cutting in the process, there only seems to be a much lesser amount of Video based news.

I was wondering whether Corrie etc would keep their designs or not, as thery weren't done long ago, I suppose it depends if they try to have a more coherent look throughout the site. At the very least it'll have some tweaks to bring it in line with the rest of the new site I should think.

I agree itv.com needs a complete overhaul - delete and start again!

The homepage at the moment is pretty nice - certainly better than a few years ago - but still feels a bit cluttered in places.

All pages should be centre-aligned and work from a generic template (if they then changed the site design at a later date after the initial re-working then they would just edit the template and it would change all the pages).

ITV Player is pretty good at the moment but needs improving as it's still a little sluggish and difficult to find certain things.

Instead of having seperate sites for everything perhaps it would be best for them to go down the channel4.com/bbc.co.uk route and have a Programmes section with each show getting its own subpage including streaming for latest episodes, etc.

ITV News website is currently a waste of time - would be better off going back to ITN if they have the money to do so, or simply just redirecting to itn.co.uk or a specially made subpage on itn.co.uk - itn.co.uk/itv for instance. Same for the Sport section - just use ITN.

Hope we see some news soon about this. I'm not overly hopeful for a website to the standard I imagine but I'm sure it'll be an improvement on the current. No doubt it'll bring about a new wave of inconsistencies though.

Let's hope they've got a new company in to architect and design it.

Liking the new navigation bar. Channel pages are a little generic, but better than the previous incarnation.

In my opinion it's very www.five.tv though, don't you think?

So more messiness and inconsistency from itv.com.

Why can't they change the lot in one big bang, rather than all these piecemeal changes ?
