I wouldn't call that the first rule. Infact I wouldn't have it as any rule - seeing as on some occasions it may only be the only option.

No offence but I know your not a pro and well you won't really know whats right and wrong in the sense of a professional.

Never said i was. Just I thought it was one of the main rules. There isn't much more annoying then clicking on a link just to find out it is still under construction.

Better to not have it at all.

And what then. You moan more cause there isn't something there saying what's going on.

If a vital system was being replaced or something then Under Construction pages would be requird. OR if a site hasn't actually launched then what? Just leave it to give 404/403 errors until you put the index page up.

There is a difference between a new site and linking.

If its a new site which hasn't been finished, not even started, why bother linking to it?

Who'd be linking to it. A user may have heard of it somehow and gone along. It may have been picked up by a search engine OR linked to in a forum as something to watch. There area plenty of possibilities that justify construction pages.

ITV.com is linking to it.

I try acessing the site by putting something like /index.htm in front of the address to see what happens

that doesnt make sense ... in my mind

There's still an old Flash based version of ITV2's website lingering on their webserver . . .

After seeing repeats from 'The Race' in the early hours in the morning I found this thread again.

I clicked the link to find we are redirected to and Under Construction message.

It must now be over a year since the ITV2 site was active. They could at least update the front page and give us basic tv listings.
