You can also get info about the Late Show at cbs.com/lateshow. As the Late Show's usual host David Letterman
is unable to host his show at the moment, the official Late Show website will announce whether there'll be guest
hosts (Bill Cosby guest hosted the other night) or reruns during the week. Speaking of other well known US late
night talk shows, FTN will be airing Letterman's NBC rival, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno from next week.
For those of you that don't know, Letterman and Leno both have their respective shows aired in the US at 23:30
While Letterman's being doing late night talk shows since 1982, Leno has hosted since sometime during the
early 90's. He took over the Tonight Show on NBC from the legendary Johnny Carson after a few successful
stints of standing in for Carson as guest host. Meanwhile, up until the summer of 1993, Letterman had been
hosting Late Night with David Letterman on NBC, a show that has always aired at around 00:30 right after
the Tonight Show. NBC's Late Night is now hosted by Conan o'Brien. When Dave defected to CBS, he
was given the lucrative 23:30 slot, after the CBS Evening News, and up against the Tonight Show.
It's either heart surgery or eye surgery, I read something about it somewhere a couple of weeks ago, I think it was that he had heart problems a couple of years before, but I am unsure. Does anyone know when Late Night With Conan O Brien will return as all we see on CNBC at the moment is MSNBC, Oh well at least The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is going to be on every weekday. BTW Jay Leno took over from Johnny Carson in 1992, there was Tenth anniversary special transmitted last year.
Dave had a quintuple bypass in January 2000, not long after interviewing the then First Lady, Hilary Clinton.
He's been unable to host the Late Show recently due to a rather condition called "shingles". My dad tells
me this is quite a painful condition centered around the eyes, and can also result in severe headaches.
It seems like Dave could be off sick for a few weeks, possibly even months, depending on the severity of
his illness. I hope he does get better soon, as most of the guest hosts on the Late Show have all been
rather lacklustre, and there hasn't even been any of the infamous Top Ten lists during his extended
absence. There's been none of the usual p*ss taking of TV shrink Dr Phil, or the usual gratuitous
appearances by the "Grinder Girl" Apparently the only decent guerst hosts they've had so far
have been Bruce Willis and Regis Philbin, and I missed the one that Regis guest hosted!
For those of you who don't know who Regis Philbin is, he co-host's a US daytime talkshow that's similar
to ITV1's "Today with Des and Mel". He's also the host of the US version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire,
and often appears on the Late Show as a guest. The banter between him and Dave is usually a good laugh.
