Hi,

For one of my University modules I had to redesign a website. Although recently updated, I chose the ITV News website as it isn't practical for users.

If you could take a look at the mockups linked below, and post your feedback on this thread, I'd be grateful as it will be used in my Portfolio.

The screenshots also show the interaction between the user and the site itself.

Thanks,

Simon

Looks really good! Three things.. the headline font is a bit too 'bold', the actual font is fine, just the boldness. The detail font is a bit too small, also is there a mobile site redesign? This wouldnt work on most/some phones.

Mobile phones nowadays take desktop sites and format it into a mobile layout, so it would work on mobiles.

Very impressed with this actually. I do prefer it to the current website. Good job!

It's always good practice to have a mobile version of a site where possible - responsive web design, as is implemented on the Channel 4 News website, does this based on screen resolution.

That's actually not a problem, because they'll redesigning it AGAIN in January anyway due to a change of logo.

Hi Simon,

What exactly is it about the ITV News website that you think isn't practical for users?

I'd like to know too.

The ITV News website is my default news source. It's brilliant.

It seems a good few of the ITV web developer/designers have joined the forum in the last few days, hello to you all.

Assuming you're working with ITV; it's ITV player that's the bottleneck, not even sure ITV News use it anymore (Vimeo is being used instead).

Hi Jasetheace,

I think that the current design is a very fresh and different approach from the stereotypical news websites, however, I don't find it practical. Whilst it's a good feature to show live news coming in, I still want to approach it in an organised manner. The current design is simply that of a blog that shows live updates. Blogs are not linked to articles, images, of a large size, are placed straight into it, weather is integrated into the blog as videos - You stumble upon them by chance. I feel that showing the ITV NEWS as a live feed is an intelligent concept, but it is something I feel should be implemented into a design rather than a stand alone feature.

The aim of my design was not to compete with BBC nor SKY, but to simply be presented in an easy format, where users can access images, live feeds including twitter updates, videos as well as articles in one place - not having to search for them in a lengthy scrollable blog. The style in which ITV has always been presented, is in a much more personal attitude in comparison to the BBC's strict unbiased and perhaps, not as 'emotional' news. I hope and think that I have achieved this. Smile

Thanks again for you comments - all appreciated Smile

ITV Player would only be used when a user searches for a particular story and there is perhaps a programme that had been featured on any of the ITV channels that is associated with the search, the user can then leap straight into ITV player Smile
