I need some help from you guys...

I have been in touch with ITV and they asked me if I could change my website name/URL so it doesn't contain ITV.

It's A bit of a pain as its hard to associate it with ITV without ITV being in the name/URL. But I don't want to get into any trouble over it, its just not worth it.

I was wondering if anyone could help me come up with some name ideas so it still relates in some way to ITV, but so it doesn't actually contain ITV. I can use independent tv/television in the title though.

One idea I had was 'The Independent TV Den' but that's a bit of a mouthful, and a lot to type into an address bar without making any mistakes.

I will be very grateful for any ideas, and if I pick any of them I will give credit on my site.
the Igallery??
Thank you everyone,

Mark

Rename it the Independent Television Gallery. Don't use their logos on banners and make a clear statement "This site is not associated with, endorsed by or part of ITV plc. in anyway, this is merely a site devoted to their channels presentation"
and "Copyrights and trademarks of all materials displayed are held by their respective owners and their use should NOT be seen as an endorsement or affiliation with this site. They are not responsible or liable for any content, products, services or information available on this site." on the homepage.

If they want you to get a new domain, ask them to pay for it.

It's a tricky one trying to link to ITV without using the abbreviation.

How about Channel 3 Gallery, C3 Gallery, C3 Den, etc?

To be honest I'd just ignore them, but you should definitely make your disclaimers more prominent, remove the ITV logo from your masthead and put the word Unofficial in all your page titles (preferably the first word of the title).

Remove the thick amounts of ITV branding and trademarks from the site where its not needed. That's the main thing thats caused them to pick up on it in the first place, as from the combination of address and branding the casual visitor might think you're associated with them (believe me; some of the public let loose on the internet are pretty damn stupid).

As for the domain name itself, if they want it transferred to them then charge them the standard domain fee to have it (10) stating they are the costs incurred for registering the domain (which you can use to register a new one). They mightn't like that and will claim it's their legal right to have the domain, but ultimately will probably pay it if you're being reasonable in your approach. You're not holding it to ransom for high fees, so their only other recourse is to pay a few hundred pounds to Nominet UK, or take legal action which will cost them considerably more and not be worth it for the money they can make.

At the end of the day their main concern is that you don't look like an actual ITV site which isn't hard to fix!

Thanks guys,

I will do some editing later today when I have access to my other computer. Remove the logo etc.

About asking them to pay for the domain name to be changed, the person I have been dealing with is actually away now until 4th January so I can't do anything till then. So I won't be actually changing the name till January at least.
