I absolutely agree. It's clean, clear, smart and suits entirely the content of the channel. The new trailer end-boards are especially good.

On that ITV1 page, for the end-of-part bumper you show that the ITV1 logo no longer appears on end-of-part bumpers:

But after watching Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last week, it did appear. Maybe you should update/check this? The good thing is the same movie as in that screenshot (HP & Goblet of Fire) is on this weekend, so you check then to see if that wasn't a one-off!

What happened to the type-in-the-channel-number navigation?

I've been considering posting an 'About this Site' page on The Ident Gallery, and I remembered that I had uploaded such a page on Greek TV Idents back in 1999. For a matter of embarrassing record, I'll quote it here. What will end up on the gallery is yet to be determined...

(Apologies now for the prosaic verbiage)

Quote:
The Purpose of the 'Greek TV Idents' Site

In creating this web site, my aim has been to capture 'the look' of the presentation material broadcast by the main television stations in Greece. Thus, the development of the stations as they change and mature can be charted over the years.

The collection of audio and video clips contained on these pages is a personal hobby and the Internet allows me to present it to a wider audience that may have similar interests.

Why 'Greek TV Idents' ?

Ever since I was a child I have had a fascination with graphic design. As a youngster in England, I used to love looking at road signs and seeing how they had changed over the years from the simple finger posts and the verbose cast-iron warning signs, to the clear international standard of today. (Who can remember, though, the white-on-red early motorway signs?) At one point, I was set on the notion of working in the road sign manufacturing plant in my home town - unfortunately it was closed down way before I reached school-leaving age!

Over the years, I have kept tabs on the changing styles of products, brands and images as seen on the High Street, and in the images broadcast on television.

And it is in the actual 'look' of television stations that I have the most interest. Every Christmas there was the anticipation of how the BBC would decorate its idents. There were the company idents that preceeded programmes on ITV. Then came Channel 4 with its completely new and distinctive 3D animations. My local ITV company 'Central' had a well deserved reputation for its innovative design and every new season was eagerly awaited. Also, travels around the world allowed me to see how other countries 'do it' - Australia being one of my favourite memories.

If I were still in England I would no doubt have a site covering the television presentation of the channels available there, but as it stands, there are now plenty of well-crafted informative sites covering UK television that have access to more resources than I would. You can see a list of some of my favourite sites under 'Links'.

At the end of 1997 I moved to the Greek island of Paros and was instantly taken with the completely different approach the stations here take towards the viewers in terms of scheduling and presentation. Hence I am able to continue with my hobby, and I'm also able to present it to you as an insight into another country's television.

I hope you enjoy it all!
