I'm incredibly interested in the history of television across the world; especially in Hong Kong, China and Europe. However, I've only found relevant material at www.transdiffusion.com
So, is anything more comprehensive available online - or even in print?

Transdiffusion is probably the most comprehensive resource for UK TV history.

Independent Teleweb and TCB both offer comprehensive potted histories of the ITV companies.

There is one site that's about television in Hong Kong. But first of all, it's in Chinese; and second, there's actually a lot of clips of there, but the site doesn't have a section that talks about the history of Hong Kong TV. But anyway here it is...

Just some background info...

TVB (Television Broadcasts) runs 2 terrestrial channels: TVB Jade (Cantonese) and TVB Pearl (English). Launched in 1967.

ATV (Asia Television) also runs 2 terrestrial channels: ATV Home (Cantonese) and ATV World (English). Launched in 1957 as subscription service Rediffusion (not sure if it was related to the Rediffusion in London); changed to terrestrial in the early 70s, and rebranded as ATV in the 80s.

Hong Kong Cable is the cable service provider. It also runs several of its own channels.

RTHK (Radio-Television Hong Kong; government-funded) does not actually operate a TV station, but makes programs that are required to be aired on TVB, ATV and Cable.

Great stuff - thanks everyone.
Also, does anyone know of a site/book documenting the integration of East German television into the western system after the fall of communism. For example, did existing station join the ARD network, or were all former East German TV stations disbanded?
As usual, any help with this - in my opinion - fascinating area of television would be greatly appreciated.

DFF was closed (with the ARD on it's frequencies from the 15th of December 1990 on) and two new regional stations were installed.

Wait a minute! I'm sure that site was mentioned last year, it looks familiar... where else can you find a 1975 TF1 ident!
