I personally don't see what's wrong with pointing it out, especially the new icons thing which some people might not notice (e.g the people who go straight to the main forum skipping the homepage and then use the links on the top to navigate around). Also, at the time I posted it, the xmas look was missing from forum pages, which means my post will have also pointed it out to those in the example.

Me too, I didn't realise there was a new look until I saw the paint brush for mock designs.
I think that it's a good job overall and well done to 'Asa'
