Well for what it's worth my ban appears to have been lifted - I've been a jolly cheeky boy and a naughty sexist and I should be very grateful that they're allowing me back in at all, apparently.

For anyone who is interested, here's my tupennysworth on it elsewhere:

A surprisingly restrained resume under the circumstances which sums up the DS death by moderation downward spiral perfectly.

Someone at Hearst really needs to put the DS forum out of it's misery as it's at least 3 Years past it's sell by date, along with the bug-ridden Vanilla software (237 Pages of gripes and counting).

Your description of " a po-faced paradise for the professionally-outraged " is perfectly judged, as is the description of the need to second or even third guess the written word to pre-judge if there's any potential for 'offence' to be caused in the very likely case some rabid, slavering PC warrior decides to target in order to, in a lot of cases unjustifiably, 'call it out' in order to make themselves look morally superior & display their 'woke' credentials.

I rarely post there any more, as I came to the conclusion a while back it mainly isn't worth the time or energy of thought if the whole thread can be brought to it's knees & closed within a very short space of time at the whim of the woke troll, who DS will seemingly back to the hilt regardless of how badly behaved they are if they happen to identify in a category.

I do miss the genuine posters who have a keen interest in the actual subject being discussed, but realise spending any length of time commenting in detail on DS can often be a futile exercise.

A few months back I got warned by the mods and given restrictions on being able to post for several days for "repeatedly misgendering" a user. If it was intentional and malicious I'd understand it, but when it's someone on an internet forum, with a username which doesn't make their gender clear, and they didn't never tried to tell me otherwise(or I missed it if they did), how am I supposed to know? There's some people on the forum who I think intentionally set out to be offended and sit there virtually with their fingers hovering over the report button. Of course the **** moderation is just at fault, being warned for doing something the user never told me was wrong.

That same user this morning just accused me of being "vile" and my "mask slipping" for making what was an obvious light hearted comment. It's clear said member is just part of the permanently outraged group. Thankfully the mods seem to have seen sensible for once and deleted that post.

( BIB ) There's a first for everything I suppose Rolling Eyes

My observation would be the thread title needs to be amended to read DS should be downsized, as that seems to be half the problem.

I've noticed at Weekends especially the trolls come out to play. Perhaps when they know there's few staff on and/or the ones that are there seem to be sympathetic to their crusade.

I also found it more than a bit suss when the DS swearing filter 'coincidentally' became deactivated when there was a debate on a contentious topic & someone dared to suggest there may be an explanation which differed from the hive.

It's almost as if the swear filter was turned off to order.

Strange that Rolling Eyes

It's somewhat Double-standards when Stolengoodplacejanet (probably one of the most 'offended" easily on DS) continues to post her bait-ey, rude, condescending posts on DS, many of which contravene the so called rules - without any apparent punishment.

Some recent examples:

[Mod edit: don't think chunk of DS posts needs to be directly on this site]

Excuse me but doesn't the above come across as rude, shouty and against the rules for telling someone they are going on ignore?

Because the said user has won some 'victories" on DS it has emboldened them to become somewhat more rude, with the Mods as usual doing jack.

I've been warning in the past for even casually mentioning the ignore feature.

Not to mention stirring up the pot in the Classic Corrie thread last week, resulting in two temp bans and what appears to be three permanent ones.

However SERIOUSLY! WTF is going on? how come this "member" continues to get away with such postings?

Anyone else would be warned or banned for such postings.

I feel like I've stumbled into a therapy session

Yes, it certainly feels like that.

Few are contributing to the site elsewhere and seem to be using this place just to complain about posters/moderators over there. This site isn't for that (who'd have a forum complaining about another forum Wink)

Feel free to reopen if there's something significant to do with DS in the future, but not if it's just to do continue this type of conversation.
