AVI and Quicktime files available. See, especially, the 1950s for the Newsmagazine titles, the 1960s for the CBC butterfly colour ident (a big find...because it's rare), the 1980s for the National and the Journal titles (from 1982).

Totally awesome...not the best quality videos, admittedly...but, still, considering that the CBC hoards its archives like conspirators hoard secrets, a nice find.

Note: these come from Government of Canada websites, so if you're going to borrow them for your own websites, you might think carefully about giving credit where credit is due.

Yes.

The CBC archives are so tight that, evidently, only the federal government was allowed to have access to copyrighted material.

Anyone who's interested in Canadian television will appreciate the significance.

Not to me it isn't and I don't appreciate trawling through repeated material, Canadian or whatever...
