Why does BBC World relaunch their channel, but pay no attention whatsoever to their website? The public website (as well as the Insite section) now no longer match any of the graphical output on the channel. The main imagery doesn't even come from BBC World per se, but from BBC Four news (which, yes, I understand is simulcasted).

Moreover, the website itself is a coding nightmare ... it appears to be all database-driven, which paralyses performance, and disallows some browsers from even navigating the site. Shameful. (And if anyone asks if I have any better ideas, I do ... and I've posted them before. They're out of date now, but could easily be updated, &c.)

News 24 (whilst having a smaller site) relaunched the same day without a problem. With all the money that BBC World makes through subscriptions and advertising, why can't they spend a fraction of that on getting a website out on time that *at least* looks like their on-screen appearance?

Perhaps someone familiar with the situation could let us know when it's being updated.

The BBC World site is a bit of a nightmare to use. It never looks good at 800x600 as you have to scroll a bit to see the right of the page when it initially loads up. Although it does seem to be ASP/SQL driven, the speed seems reasonable but at certain times it loads very slowly.

Also you are bombarded with moving adverts to the right of the page when you first load it, which in my personal opinion makes the site look cheap. There is nothing more I hate than to see several whizzy adverts plugging the content of the BBC World site - it would be better if they were simply static or animated when you hovered your cursor over them.

It's all very well telling me that's what the scrolly thing saying News Headlines is meant to do but where are the actual headlines?

Technically it is just a site about BBC World, and as such wouldnt have much content. But, I dont see why they cant make it a subsection of the bbcnews.com site, like BBC News 24 is.

As for the insite site, it is a press and publicity site, and as such is not designed to be viewed by the public.

Look at www.skypublicity.co.uk for an equivilant site. It is there to provide publicity shots and information to the press and other business partners.

The only useful sections to BBC World.com are the listings and Click Online. The listings section is useful because I can get GMT times, as opposed to CET on their ceefax pages.

I'm viewing the site in 1280x1024, and I get an extended BBC World banner at the top, and a load of "24 HOURS" logos to the right, in the blank space.

BBC World.com is only plugged nowadays when Pres are in control - breakfiller, on symbols and trailers etc. The news programmes promote BBC News.com for headlines.

I have contacted BBC World about this some time ago and this is what I got from them...

Hello and thanks for your email.

There are no immediate plans for a relaunch of the website, but your comment will be passed on to our marketing team.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.

Indeed. It seems that BBC World's Japanese programming division has special versions of the output only for Japan. Or, perhaps, they just chose not to update the logo. I am unsure about that as well.

No, I think it's just they didn't have a vector version of the logo, and chose to reproduce it in an inferior manner. Q.E.D.
