Pants! Total pants. It doesn't look right in every browser, it crashes some, and the fonts are too small for a Mac. The graphics are nearly horrid, with the same image surrounding that banner at the top.
And by this you mean ... what? I see. Let me rephrase it to sound more positive.
Perhaps they could consider coding it to display properly in browsers besides Netscape or Internet Explorer. Because, in those browsers, it doesn't even reach the homepage. Also, the fonts might be too small for those with a Mac, so maybe they'd be so kind as to increase those?
Is that better for your discriminating tastes, BBC TV Centre? Or should I make it more syrupy. Or perhaps I could just redesign the page for them. Maybe that would be more constructive. Oh wait, I did.

Wait a minute.....It may look nice in Flash, Photoshop (or whatever program you use to design the fake site) but will it actually work as a HTML page? Did you design this using a graphics or web design package? Will it overcome all of the technical hurdles with regards to cross browser/platform compatibility?
I usually hate it when people say something along the lines of "well, I do this for a living, so I know what I'm doing." So I'm not going to say that. I designed the website using Fireworks. Presumably, if I wanted to, I could slice up the imagery and drop it into an HTML page. In case it's not clear to you, BBC TV Centre, text that is not antialiased is HTML text.
As for cross-platform compatibility, there's nothing (functionality-wise) I designed with this page that isn't covered by 4.0 browsers or above. Perhaps the most complex item is a rollover or two, but I don't even know if I would use that. So, unless there's something that I missed whilst designing this, I think it's perfectly reasonable, and even simpler to build than their existing site.
I will say, though, that I've designed dozens of web sites using this process, and it's worked for me before. I hate to sound high-strung, but when people call that kind of thing into question with me, it kind of strikes a nerve.

It is annoying when that happens, especially when one person, who will remain nameless, tried to tell me Lambie Nairn uses Flash to create his work.
Although you could probably guess who it was.
Apart from pi**ing myself laughing, it actually does annoy the hell out of you when people start to question something you've done in your spare time, when you do it for a living, only for an "amateur" to fire stupid questions or comments at it.
Hence why only selected few know what I've done, especially since the majority of people on here could probably see it at least a few times a week...

MrTomServo - did you make that background on your mock for the mock or was it a seperate image that was just used to put things on?
If the latter, would it be possible for me to have a copy of that background?

Well ... a little of both, actually. It's a background that I'd made previously, but I tweaked it a bit for this project. It's always been available at http://homepage.mac.com/robertpalmer/downloads/ in the Desktop Pictures section. Scroll down about two-thirds.
It really dosen't work. All i get it a load of white and "Affinity generation page" and nout else?

Now, I have done a webpage - using "MrTomServo's" design (I hope you don't mind!) and I was wondering what you thought? I was thinking of using it for WORLDwatch if he didn't have any complaints.
I know it' not brilliant but I think it's alright! Just need something for the top left corner!

I like it, although one or two constructive criticisms if I may?
The links bar could do with being a big thinner. At the moment, it seems like only about 1/3 of the page is actual content. You could make the text a bit smaller, then reduce the size of the bar.
Maybe you could move the WORLDwatch logo to the left, above the links. Then you could but the url in the right, and maybe reduce the size of the top as well?
Apart from that, I think it's absolutely excellent! Well done!

Thanks. Comments welcome and it's only a prototype - still got a lot of tweaking to do first.
