Technically, isn't the trial still continuing? Obviously it would be a travesty for this service not to launch but has anything been confirmed?
And couldn't anyone think of a better name than the rather clunky and childish "MyBBCPlayer"?! The developers give it a funky acronym which actually means something but marketing stuck their oar in I guess to give it something 'user friendly'.
From reading the message board there certainly seems a lot of issues around the stability, CPU usage and general user interface so I'm guessing any launch for us mortals will still be a fair way off.

The trial is indeed ongoing, until the end of March. I'm dreading the day when they take my iMP away; I will weep like a little girl.
I agree that changing the name to My BBC Player is a bit of a tragedy. "iMP" rolls off the tongue, and I'm already used to the special idents on iMP - "you're watching BBC ONE on the Integrated Media Player; now, the programme that you've selected". I also like that they run the same trailers that we get on television, ending with "catch up on iMP". "Catch up on My BBC Player" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

Well to brand it as BBC iMP would surely be the best option - would keep the marketing bods happy too.

Yes it will be MyBBCPlayer ... Mark Thompson announced it a while ago. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4187036.stm
I think what will happen is that the Radio Player and iMP will be intergrated into the MyBBCPlayer. The problem with calling it something like iMP is that media savvy people won't mind it but I can't imagine my Mum knowing what it is. Say RadioPlayer to a non technically minded person and they get it. The same applies to MyBBCPlayer.

Well thank the Lord. I see MyBBCPlayer is now under the new name of BBC iPlayer. Thanks to whoever made that decision. Something (hopefully) so fundamentally brilliant should not have ever been given a name sounding like it belonged to Fisher Price.
Ok, so the new name is hardly awe-inspiring and piggy-backs on the idea of iPods but hey, it's better.

Shame the name is already taken by a DTT box, you'd think they'd know better as R&D once helped test for software for it
