Sorry for the problems everyone. Which ads have sounds? Are they still running? If they are, I'll get in contact with the company and ask for those to be removed - I appreciate how annoying they can be.

Four I can think of that are on heavy rotation ...

The post office one with the scrolling banner.

The Telewest one with the talking teletubbie kicking the bomb around.

The Halifax car insurance one featuring that animated gimp - much preferred the real bloke! Laughing

The BT ones

None of those have sound and if you're talking about Flash-based advertising, 95% of the advertising is Flash-based though if they're just your pick of the annoying ones then take your ideas to the back of the line, others have a list too.

Ah, but these are annoying for a reason. They slow down my computer - whilst these adverts are in full swing they consume lots of processor cycles and the worst cause my computer to become unusable because they use loads of animation.

I wouldn't mind so much if they had them stactic GIF ones that changed every 10 seconds or so, but flash ones are really annoying. You might have the latest P4 processor so the performance impact might not be noticeable on your machine, but spare a thought for those of us who don't have the latest hardware!

That's mean, I have a moudly PII.. Anyway, it doesn't seem to make more procesor cycles than IE would regularly for me though I do understand how you must hate the Flash advertising.

I've never noticed ads with sounds, is it possible in the Almighty Mozilla Firefox to block flash ads from the ad site like images?

It links back to a Wanadoo ad from a few weeks/months back where there was a SFX track on it that really grated on some of the member's nerves.

Yup, there is.

Simply install AdBlock, which will not only block Flash banner ads, but ALL banner ads. Simply click "Adblock 0.5 d2 nightly 39" to install it into FireFox.

When you've installed it, PM me and I'll send you my filter list. This is a list of everthing it needs to block, and without one it does nothing. With mine I've not seen a single banner ad for months.

Why can we not have those Google word ads or something - less intrusive?

Ooooo - there's now a flash advert for SKY!

More at http://www.ordersky.com/

and also this page is quite interesting aswell:-

http://www.ordersky.com/whyskydigital/multitvcomparison.asp

I just love seeing the bias in these comparison tables. Of course it is all legally correct but obviously they have arranged the data in such a way to show that SKY is the best throughout all the platforms. I didnt realise that Telewest only had 100 channels, whereas NTL has 150 and SKY the full 200! Why the differences?

Are there any channels now exclusive to Telewest/NTL and Freeview that arent available on SKY. One channel I remember was a film channel called The Studio and of course the new ITV3.

Doh - has asa earned one pence from me clicking that link?
(hmm maybe you should all wait for the flash animation to kick in rather than clicking the above links to make asa some more money?)

Also quite a good channel list for £13.50 a month:-

And don't forget asterixes; asterixes are your friends when you're trying to con people. Especially if you don't link them to another asterisk (I don't know how many times that's happened!) Razz

Oh, and carefully chosen weasel-words help too.
