Quote:
Channel 4 is to make live streaming of its TV networks and on-demand service 4oD available in a new online hub, branded All 4, in a bid to better exploit the growing trend in viewing on devices such as tablets and smartphones.

As part of the digital transition, 4oD – the brand launched by Channel 4 in 2006 as the first home of its on-demand, catch-up TV service – will be scrapped.

They missed a trick there. They should have coloured that logo in the style of the 1982 ident.

Channel 4 viewers can get access to the 4od service in the Republic of Ireland. Will that all change once this new service will come in next year?

Someone has too much time on their hands again at C4:

Essentially they're scrapping the 4oD brand and pulling together live and on demand content under the brand "All4", despite 4oD being a very well established brand.

Pulling everything together makes sense but dropping the 4oD brand is nonsense - I'd keep the 4oD brand and integrate live streaming into that, not just simulcasts of the channels but any additional streaming (like Paralympic events) as well.

I'd totally agree. I'd say that 4oD was up there with iPlayer for one of the most recognisable.

All4 sounds a bit like 'awful'.

I agree, 4OD's a pretty strong brand, stronger than ITV Player I'd say which I've heard people call iPlayer. It's daft that they're scrapping it.

I think they've got the right strategy here though, using one platform to deliver live streams, catch up and promos (presumably) as part of their coming soon section. They need to nail availability across smart TVs though IMO; it's a bit hit and miss as to whether it's available on your brand of telly.

I like the logo though. Smile

EDIT: Embarassed Oops. I thought it was the colours of the original ident. Well, it appears that the logo is, after all, just the main logo on it's side (with the colours of all the brands) - mediocre.

With regards to the name... Pretty silly really. Does sound like 'awful' and a bit pointless really.

4oD is a strong brand but I think looking forward it makes sense to have one uniform brand for their online content, so if Channel 4 do start doing things like online-only shows, they can be promoted more effectively than being shoved under the catch-up brand.

(Basically, what deejay said before I could!)

Surely 4Player would've been a more Channel 4-esque name?

No one's going to say I watched that on 'All 4' in the way they might say '4OD', it's madness of Sky Sports News HQ proportions. It also doesn't roll off the tongue very easily and just sounds like a bit weak.
