Google have announced that they are pulling YouTube from Amazon's streaming devices over their refusal to stock Chromecast products and put its Prime video service on Google devices

If this doesn't get resolved and they make good on the threat then I daresay that workarounds will emerge.

Kodi and the YouTube addon should do the trick or a simple sideload of the YouTube apk for Android.

Doesn't particularly bother me, the YouTube app for Android I cannot get on with and I actually hate using it, I'm too used to the way the desktop site works.

But yes, workaround will emerge. You can sideload on the Firestick at least, though whether what you sideload works is another matter.

It appears the YouTube 'app' for Fire TV is just a gateway, made by Amazon to redirect users to the Youtube.com/tv site.

Amazon have now made a build of Firefox and their own Silk browser available for Fire TV and are plugging them as featured apps, complete with descriptions that mention YouTube compatability

I installed them the other day. Works well with YouTube which uses HTML5, but no good for those providers who continue to use Flash for streaming.

Amazon have updated their YouTube workaround to prompt users to open Silk or Firefox.
