Problem with Scart and splitter

DVD player built into my TV has broke down, and so I'm using a spare DVD player, with Scart. I've also got a Skybox with a Scart. The TV has only one Scart socket though.

The problem is, that I've had to use a Scart splitter, to put both into, then plug that into the TV Scart socket. However, when I have the DVD player Scart plugged into the splitter, the picture on both the DVD and TV is dark, yet when I remove the DVD Scart, the picture is back to normal.

The only solution I have right now is to remove the Skybox scart and plug in the DVD scart. Hardly ideal though. So, anyone know what is causing this, and any solutions, preferably allowing me to have both connected to a Scart splitter plugged into a TV, and have bright tv picture?

You need a switcher, not a splitter.

Or to burn anything with a scart connection you own. It really is the work of the devil.

A switcher. Is that like what I have, with space for two Scarts, but with a switch in between?

Yes, although you can get automatically switching ones too which have no obvious external switch.

The problem with yours is that it is splitting the signal and sending the Sky box output into the DVD player and vice-versa. Sometimes they'll cope, others, as in this case, it won't and you'll get mangled pictures on your TV.

So given the fact mine doesn't have a switch, that's the issue, and I need one with a switch?

I saw one on the Currys website with a push button for whatever scart u wanted to operate. Would this be a better measure than what I've got now?

Basically because yours is splitting, rather than switching the picture signal is getting sent from the DVD to the TV & the Sky box, so the TV isn't getting the full strength, thus dark picture. A switcher will send to one or the other, not both, and should help with your issue.
